Anniversary of the Christian Serbian Revolution against the Moslem Turk occupiers

On April 23, 2010, Serbia marked 195 years since the Second Serbian Uprising. The First and Second Serbian uprisings against the Ottoman Turks were critical milestones in Serbian history. After several centuries of being ruled by the Turks who occupied the Serbian lands, beginning with the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, the Serbs, with their successful uprisings against the Moslem Ottomans, were on their way to establishing their modern Serbian statehood and winning back their independence. This excellent video with English subtitles presents the history of the Christian Serbians' revolution against their Moslem occupiers.

And the music accompanying the video is gorgeous.

Sincerely,

Aleksandra Rebic

There may be another Christian uprising against a Muslim ruler closer to home in the near future...

Thanks to Ravnagora for reminding me of this connection with the Feast of St. George the Great Martyr.

Orthodox Ping!

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

It’s a shame Pres Clinton sent our forces to fight the wrong guys.

To this day I still have no clue why Clinton did what he did... all I remember was that CNN gal reporter daily reporting on the 'genocide' taking place in the belly of Europe... kinda like what took place in Somalia during the GHWBush Presidency.... The Jon Stewart media is the bugle boys for political parties to spend our blood and treasury... Yet they were adamantly opposed to sending to the pit the butcher of Babylon, when he was UN mandated and by his own signature agreed to behave.

Because it’s okay with everybody to kill Eastern Orthodox Christians, frankly.

This is the effect, however, that cannot have been the official stated purpose... The Europeans were like sloths in non-response, even verbally. Why? The media made this a cause, but who was feeding them their pablum.

What I have trouble wrapping my brain around is why, why, why the murdering, bloodthirsty, women-subjugating, 12th-century-thinking Mohammedans always come off being viewed as the victimized...

...especially seeing as how so many of them view the rest of us as infidels who have no right to exist.

Any time they are pushed back from their efforts by a valiant people, the rest of the world spends centuries trying to reverse it. Serbia, Israel...

I hear you, I do not get the mindset myself.... And add in to their mix is that they of the causing of confusion to the point of a fine art, will call their most hated foes, US, the 'right-wing' Taliban/like... and or Nazi/like... There are just some very warped people in charge these days.

Thanks for the interesting post. I knew nothing of this sad part of world history prior to your post.

These Serbs were handsome guys and big on ‘staches! The music was magnificent.

It’s not okay with me AT ALL, Serb.

But it seems to be perfectly fine with Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, and everybody else to sacrifice Orthodox Christians wherever they are suitable political fodder.

Christos voskrese.

Voistinu voskrese!!!!

The bad part is that the Orthodox Church is the true home of all Christians, and that there is a enormous need for Christians in many American “denominations” (e.g., Lutherans, Episcopalians) to return home NOW!!!!

So bashing the Orthodox is a very bad thing for Western Christians to do, and will hurt the bashers themselves a lot sooner than they would like.

Well, all THIS convert can say is...

The Jews tried to abort it. They failed.
The Romans tried to squash it. They failed.
The Heretics tried to sidetrack it. They failed.
The Muslims tried to intimidate it, contain it, run it off, and kill it. They failed.
The Papists tried to subjugate it. They failed.
The Bolsheviks tried to purge it. They failed.
The Reformers still hilariously and needlessly try to “save” it. Gospodi pomiluj. They fail.

I agree completely with your thoughts...all members of Reform “denominations” that have become disaffected by the political correctness run amok in their churches are welcome to come home to Orthodoxy. You don’t know what you’re missing.

But I would refer them to the communications between the Tubingen Lutherans and the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the 16th Century...

...Boiled down to one bullet point: The Church is here. Always is, always has been, and it’s the same as it ever was. We do things the way we have for 2000 years, the Liturgy has just gotten a little longer. Don’t expect IT to change for YOU.

Q. How many Orthodox Christians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Change? What it this...CHANGE?

Or the more contemporary writings of Jaroslav Pelikan.

As you know, not ALL the descendants of Luther are bent on "saving" the Orthodox.

Some are desirous that the Church would some day "breathe with both its lungs" with the cross-in-the-heart Luther Rose beating its lifeblood of warm piety into both.

Even now, it is joy to find that the Lutheran Book of Worship version of Vespers has melded together the Roman Catholic use of two Psalms and the Magnificat with the Eastern Phos Hilaron, "O Lord I have cried", and Ektenia
