The Republican Governors Association goes after a tea party independent
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ ^ | April 27, 2010 | By David Weigel

Two weeks after independent Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Tim Cahill attended the big tea party on Boston Common, he's getting hit with a seven-figure attack ad from the Republican Governors Association.

The RGA's strategy, as the Boston Globe points out, is to do what it did to Chris Daggett, the 2009 independent candidate for governor of New Jersey, and inform voters that Cahill is even worse than the Democratic incumbent, Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass.). The problem is that Daggett ran generally to the left of now-Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.). Cahill is running to the right of the field in Massachusetts, gunning for fiscally conservative, pro-life voters who he's confident will be put off by Baker's pro-choice running mate, state Sen. Richard Tisei.

I'm told that Cahill has already shot a response ad that will go up this afternoon.

"We opposed ObamaCare and went to the tea party while the Republican did neither," said a source in Cahill's camp to me. "Now the RGA feels like they have to come in and kill us?"

I think the message is (1)that the Republicans think they can win in November whether they have the support of the Teapartiers or not; (2) that if they do win, they will accept most of what Obama has advanced and (3) that they do not expect/want to win in 2012 and expect to succeed Obama in 2017 with one of their own kind. They are appalled by the idea of being dragged to the right.

it is about “relationships”. By insiders FOR insiders.

They have eyes but can not see. etc.

RINOs only support RINOs.

This is why the established republicans only really want crist in fl. Rubio is the unwashed masses candidate. The country club hates the masses.

There was no GOP primary in the slave state of Massachusetts.

Cahill is much more conservative than Baker. I'd vote for Cahill if I were in MA. The Republican ticket they are running is an embarrassment

Cahill was in the Democratic Party till relatively recently, no?
He only switched to independent because he knew he was going to lose to Deval Patrick (D) in the Democratic Party primaries. The guy is no different from the Chris Daggett, the so-called “independent” in the NJ elections.
Why the heck should Republicans support this guy just because he attended one Tea Party rally?
And if he is conservative, why is he not running in the GOP primaries, and wants to run as an independent instead, and is more intertesrested in taking votes from the Republicans?
We back conservatives in the primaries. If they lose in the primaries, that's it. This guy is not even bothering to compete in the GOP primaies at all. NO THIRD PARTIES.
Looks to me like the Washington Post out to ferment as much mischief as they can for the GOP..as usual. Nothing new here.

He is already running ahead of Baker.

What poll you talking about here, dude?
Latest poll I have from, Rasmussen(and the poll before that), all had Baker ahead of Cahill .

Joe you don’t know what you are talking about. Tim switched parties long before and never was a part of the Democrat primary. He is more conservative than Baker and he is not like Daggett. Baker is a soft liberal Republican. Tim came out against Obamacare strongly and he was even barred
barred from the 2008 Democratic National Convention because he wouldn’t endorse either Obama or Hillary Clinton, said, “My own party basically voted me out.”. He also did not vote for Obama. I can’t say as much for Baker or Tsie or sissy what ever his running mates name is.

You sir should stop spreading disinformation. This is not the world of R is good D is bad. I want the best possible candidate and Baker is not a friend of Tea Parties, he is big money soft Republican.

Tim switched parties long before and never was a part of the Democrat primary.

He switched parties in July last year.
http://wbztv.com/politics/Tim.Cahill.independent.2.1074400.html

He knew the Democratic Party machine was going to back Deval Patrick, and there was simply no way he was going to win the Democratic Party nomination, with the entire Democratic Party machine in Massachusetts working against him. What he did was, he did some forward thinking and got out early, so he could establish his own political organization for his governorship run. He's been a Democrat all his life. Why the heck would Republicans vote for such a man?

If he is conservative, he should run in the GOP primaries like everyone else and convince conservatives to vote for him. As it is, he is trying to take voters from the GOP so Patrick can win. No third parties

I support him because polling shows he can win. I’ve never supported a Democrat in my life but for me conservatism and issues of liberty are more important that just rubber stamping a liberal elephant. I’ll support a moderate even but I don’t support liberal activists who run as Republicans and Charlie Baker and especially his running mate is. We need strong candidates. Tim Cahill is a little left of Scott Brown. Charlie Baker is to left of Harry Reid and would be more comfortable in the company of Nancy Pelosi. If the people Massachusetts want change they will vote Cahill. He may not be the best but he is better than the elephant and the Donkey in the room and in Mass he can and will probably win.

Baker is an idiot fascist who should lose.

Cahill, correctly, is against RomneyCARE.

Everyone who supports Baker is a plant
for Romney and RomneyCARE.

If Tim Cahill wants to run as a conservative, he can run in the GOP primaries like everyone else. If he runs as an independent, he gets no GOP votes.
Why should GOP voters vote for a lifelong Democrat who switched left the Democratic Party less than a year ago, because he knew Patrick would beat him in the Democratic Party primaries? Especially since Cahill is not even putting his ideas on the line in a competitive GOP primary?
No thanks. No third parties!
