"A highly esteemed friend emailed me a link to a column by Dan Riehl in which he expressed concerns about the potential damage Glenn Beck could inflict on the conservative movement. I cant help but think there may be some professional jealousy behind the column. As a writer, Im jealous of Glenn Beck. I would love to have the kind of influence the man has. That is the struggle we have as human beings. We want to do good for our country. We can even put the cause above ourselves (as we should); but there is still an innate desire for recognition. I cannot judge Dan Riehl but his column made me think introspectively. In writings to his wife Abigail, John Adams enlarged upon his constant war against personal ambition. (Read David McCulloughs biography of John Adams for some great examples). Ambition is so clandestine we often cannot detect it in ourselves, much less others.
