Obama Buyer's Remorse
The American Thinker ^ | May 14, 2010 | Robert Weissberg

Posted on 05/14/2010 4:59:18 AM PDT by Scanian

President Obama's disappointing performance has indisputably brought enormous buyer's remorse to many of his fans, the feeling that the "purchase" (i.e., voting for Obama) was a mistake. And while little can be done until November 2012, it may be useful to analyze why thoughtful people were seduced and, furthermore, learn to avoid future hoodwinking. In a nutshell, the American public was lead astray by conflating outward appearances -- "he's seems so smart" -- with underlying substance -- "he is so smart." What we saw wasn't what we got.

Having spent four decades in top research universities, I questioned Obama's alleged stellar intellectual abilities from the beginning; he is smart, I said, but not that smart. Let me explain. These forty years of teaching and research has taught me that outward appearances do not necessarily signify exceptional intellectual talent. An "A" should never be given to students who just seem smart and faculty accomplishment is certified only by original research defended before knowledgeable peers. These are tough standards and professors regularly encounter seemingly promising students and job candidates who just can't get beyond clever glibness. Happily for over-matched student, however, tutoring or professorial kindness can push them toward a diploma, and when combined with their fine rhetorical skills, the diploma easily impresses non-expert outsiders.

I don't remember who said it, but this sounds true,

"Black people voted for him because he's black. White people voted for him because they thought he was Tiger Woods."

Buyer’s remorse?

There are damn fools, and then there are the obama voters who are responsible for this continuous disaster.

If we can get Congress, and perhaps the Senate, back under adult supervision, we may be able to stop the insanity foisted upon us by these irresponsible idiots.

I still cannot believe these idiots saw the Jeremiah Wright tapes and voted for these jerks anyway.

“Black people voted for him because he’s black. White people voted for him because they thought he was Tiger Woods.”

And Tiger Woods was really “Tiger Woods”. What a hoot!

Also, McCain was the other choice. I think that had more to do with Obama’s win than anything.

I've met many men like Obama. It doesn't take a college professor to tell me Barry is a complete fake with little or no talent for anything but oratory skills. Those skills worked fine for his local welfare ghetto crowd and somehow hoodwinked the city liberals. Guess it shows how smart our “elite” city boys are.

I saw through this guy like a store front window when he was in the U.S Senate.
I, to this day, cannot believe all of the people who voted for this bozo — empty suit; always was and always will be nothing but an empty suit!

My fear is the the pubes WILL take over congress this fall ... then try to work with the President and produce compromising legislation that he can sign. If he can sign it ... it has to be bad.

I agree. Pretty much the only arrow in our quiver was "Vote for the dumb sounding old guy because you just cannot believe how bad the other guy is going to be.

Ok. There’s nothing new here. The Democrats are good at packaging and marketing. How do you think they sold Bill Cinton — a do-nothing governor from a relatively obscure state? True, once elected, they found out that the pretty package was rotten inside, but in a culture as superficial as this one, EVERY contest is a beauty contest!

It’s no different with Obamateur, a do-nothing senator from a city as crooked as a dog’s hind leg. You can’t run some crusty old curmudgeon like John McCain against a pretty boy lackey like O and expect him to win. With Zero, the voters found out that the pretty package wasn’t rotten; it was just EMPTY. But by then it’s too late.

Conservatives need to wake up to 21st-century marketing principles or their candidates with substance are going to continue to lose out to the empty-headed Beautiful People.

Worse than that, he is a total fraud, criminalizing himself and led by "outsiders" (DNC/RNC[?]) his way into OUR White House to transform this nation into Marxism!!!

Greece will look like a Sunday School class compared to the U.S. if the impostor and cohorts get their way???

And now his wicket wife is behind the curtain waiting to step on the stage for a NEW buyers remorse, and the sheeple will bow down to her like when the muzzies pray and turning their direction to Mecca!!!

My mother voted against McCain because he’s too old. She actually had more in common with McCain than Obama, but was afraid McCain would be too senile to manage.

All anyone had to do was read the first 75 pages of “Dreams from My Father” to realize the guy was a socialist and had deep seated disagreements with America itself.

I did that in February 2007 when he announced he would run. From that point on, I put the book down and encouraged everyone I could to take a look. Nobody wanted to...least of all Obama supporters.

Don't talk about Hitler...stupidness occurred right here.

Obama campaigned as a moderate, but he had the most liberal voting record of anyone in the Senate. I can’t believe that people actually listen to a politian instead of looking at their record. It’s like the confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court - They don’t tell you anything about the person. You have to look at their history on the bench to see how they decided.
