Hizbullah blocking Internet in Lebanon, importing advanced systems

The Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah was said to have blocked the flow of information on military deployment in Lebanon. A retired U.S. Army general said Hizbullah has been monitoring and preventing communications between Lebanon and the outside world, particularly regarding the arrival of advanced weapons. The general, Paul Vallely, said Hizbullah has sought to keep secret the flow of conventional and nonconventional weapons received from Iran in 2010.

"The Internet has been locked down, very tightly controlled," Vallely said. "Anyone associated with any Israeli will be assassinated."

The retired U.S. general, an author and military analyst for the U.S.-based Fox News, said the Internet lock-down was first detected in late April. He said Lebanon's Christian and Druse communities have been alarmed by Hizbullah's capability to control communications.

"We have seen that assassinations have increased over the last year," Vallely said.

Vallely, chairman of the military committee at the Center for Security Policy in Washington, said Hizbullah, which dominates the Lebanese government of Prime Minister Said Hariri, has received Scud-class missiles with a range of 450 kilometers.

In late April, the general said, a Russian-origin submarine with an Iranian flag docked in Beirut, and men in gas masks removed unidentified equipment.

"Some form of chemical weapons are being offloaded from the submarine to the control of Hizbullah," Vallely said.

Vallely said Hizbullah has deployed between 50,000 and 60,000 missiles and rockets in Lebanon near the border with Israel. He said Hizbullah, under the guidance of Iran's IRGC, has also constructed tunnels that penetrate northern Israel.

The retired general said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has raised its profile in Lebanon in an effort to facilitate a pre-emptive strike on Israel over the next few months. He said the IRGC has been preparing for massive missile and infantry attacks on the Jewish state, which
