The dominance of the U.S. space industry is threatened by European and Asian firms, the Pentagons industrial policy chief said May 25.
Were at a tipping point with our space industry, Brett Lambert said at a forum on the strength of the space industrial base hosted by the George C. Marshall Institute think tank. We have for so long been the dominant player and the most technologically advanced player.
European and Asian countries have developed their space industrial bases not because they wanted to make those investments [but] because they didnt have access to our technology, he said. As they get more capable, we will become less competitive.
Strengthening the industry will require export control, allowing U.S. firms to more easily sell products abroad. Export controls have been a concern of the U.S. space industry as trade laws, such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, restrict overseas sales of commercial communications satellites and related technology. Many have called those restrictions outdated.
Export control reform in the United States has made progress, but the proof will be in the execution of it, Lambert said.

Good point.. This should come as no surprise with Obama at the helm. Can’t have Global Governance without first dismantling the United States.
No, we’ll be able to assemble on hell of a German or Chinese-made windmill.
Ping.
kind of a duh moment
How much money are we giving to Europe to bail them out.
Ya think?
Hey, at least our country makes the best outer-space sci-fi movies ever.
That should count for something.
Neil Armstrong elevated our imagination immensly back in the late 60’s, now we have James Cameron doing the same thing for a lot cheaper.....and quadruples+ $$$ with profit.
Who needs real life?
/s
James Cameron did donate a high speed camera(for free) for the upcoming NASA mission to Mars.
I heard that and a bit leary to it.
If NASA wanted it or needed it they would have bought it and i would have payed for it.
I love Cameron movies (haven’t seen Avatar) but as a person i feel he is a low life, wife cheating, people using opportunist.
Just watched Aliens 2 AGAIN for the 81’st time about 2 hours ago on tv.
lol
very nice in HD. I wonder if the way better directors cut is on blu-ray yet?
Hollywood has been making billions of dollars off of space themed movies. Its about time that they gave back to the space industry.
Pretty soon you will be seeing Exxon, Pepsi, Champion, Castrol, Stayfree, Kotex stickers on the side of planetary probes.
maybe it’s a good idea. i dunno.
Seems to me Cameron and his 3-D offer was the first push down that slippery slope.
So you gonna put me on your ping list?
Yes. You are still on the ping list. I have not forgotten you.
Actually, I could see the NASCAR approach to funding space exploration. After a mission is complete, the astronauts could have press conferences the way that NASCAR drivers do (”Yeah, this is a great rocket, and our groud crew was just awesome...”). Hmmmm, and Ares rocket covered in sponsor logos. Heck, I would pony-up some cash to have my name on the side of a NASA rocket.
and really neat solar panels...
