Mitt Romney’s main strategy in the GOP primaries of 2012 is to hammer Sarah Palin as “a quitter”.

Yesterday, I was interviewed by a reporter for CBS, for a story on the diverse groups of people supporting Sarah Palin online. The reporter authored a book on Palin last year, after being embedded with her vice presidential campaign, following a stint covering Mittens Romney. I can’t imagine how many cucumbers-and-mayonnaise sandwiches this guy had to eat on the Romney Express (to nowhere), but I gave him the same kind of awed respect I grant anyone who’s ever spent more than half an hour with Tim Pawlenty — and didn’t succumb to T-Paw induced narcolepsy.

We (the reporter and I, not Tim Pawlenty or Mittens) met up at Nookie’s Tree in Boystown and talked about Sarah Palin over coffee. Doing enough of these interviews over the course of the last few years, and being interviewed by some great people like Andrea Shea King and Tammy Bruce, I can usually spot the story the reporter wants to tell by the way his questions unfold and what he keeps coming back to whenever I take the conversation on one of my tangents about how terrible the current administration is. The story CBS wants to do on Palin’s supporters appears to be something in the realm of “an unthinking, personal, and emotional defense of a woman they love”. It’s not a negative story, and the reporter doesn’t seem like the kind who would write a hit piece, on either Palin herself or on me as a Palin-supporter, but the impression I got from him was that he’s projecting the Left’s Obama cult of personality onto Palin supporters — when nothing could be further from the truth.

Most of the questions asked of me were in the vein of how I felt whenever Palin was attacked, and what makes me defend her.

“However the Republicans must have a candidate who can also win...”

That is the big problem...however, figuring out if the candidate can win seems to be an impossible science. If you look at 2008, you had a very well experienced person who reached across the the aisle time and time again, against a total radical with virtually no experience...

The moral of the story is that the candidate who can do the best to bring out his base wins - and Sarah certainly WAS doing that, and it scared the hell out of the MSM. It is up to Sarah to maintain that capability...if she can, she wins - it’s that simple.

How’s Sarah Palin doing with her ENDORSING and CAMPAIGNING for RINO, McPain?

I despise that slick, fast-talking RINO Romney.

I hope his "trash Palin" strategy backfires on him.

I also hope people like Jim DeMint, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan and others will join the primaries.

There are other Republicans in the presidential field, and worrying about name recognition as this point is an unforgivably stupid thing to do.

Agree 100%.

Since when do “Romney” and “conservative” belong in the same sentence?

Anybody that's serious about 2012 should focus on one thing: raising money and support to win back the House and Senate in 2010. Sarah's doing exactly that. Where's Mitt, Newt, and Huck?

Mitt Romney’s main strategy is to buy the active support or silence of anyone and everyone who can be bought. And believe me, there are a whole lot of folks in the higher echelons of the Republican Party who can be bought. In fact, what’s really hard to find is someone who can’t be.

Where's Mitt, Newt, and Huck?

Doing what they do best, which is to find cameras to jump in front of.

Don’t think that will win against “Mitt’s a Hypocrite” and “Vote For Mitt, be a Hypocrite”.

Anyone who votes for Mitt and is opposed to Obamacare is a total hypocrite. Masscare IS Obamacare, and it’s destroying Massachusetts.

Despite the impression we may get on Free Republic, Sarah Palin appeal is limited in the Republican base. It is limited to a portion of the conservative base and not all the conservative base let alone the moderates Republicans and independents who vote Republicans where her appeal is rather small. Palin fans greatly underestimate the super political problem she has made to herself by quiting her governor position in Alaska barely 2.5 years in her first term. No matter what the excuses you hear from her fans, these excuses are not going to work outside of 25% of the electorate.

Regarding Romney he also created a super political problem for himself by signing the Massachusetts healthcare bill into law. The Massachusetts healthcare plan is similar to Obamacare in many aspect. Like Obamacare it is not an outright take over of the private healthcare system but also like Obamacare it certainly leads to massive spending, more taxes to get the money for spending, and on the long run in may very well lead to the destructive socialized medicine. Of course Obamacar is nationwide whereas Romneycare is Massachusetts but still it is a super problem for Romney if he decides to run for President.

I would like to see the nomination won by a good Republican governor who has governed at least for two terms or even a a strong Republican Senator but my preference is for the experienced governor.

The voters would decide in 2012 who is the Republican nominee and who is the President. Hopefully we will defeat Obama and his destructive socialism in the 2012 elections.

Filming the next Three Stooges show.

Just say no to the hypocrite (Mitt), the expedient politician (Newt) and the guy who’s soft on crime (and can ‘Huck off’ as far as I am concerned).

They all have something in common: the only political career ahead of them should in the form of a consular position in St. Helena.

Romney just doesn’t seem to be able to get it. He could dump his entire fortune into this thing, and he won’t win. His record is just too mismatched to the time.

He is, at best, a late conservative convert (and likely just another Crist), he is labeled as a Wall Street guy...and whether or not that is fair, the PERCEPTION is exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time in this environment.

Add to that his decisions as Gov of Massachusetts and the fact he is a Mormon.....too much to overcome. Some of it might not be fair, but politics isn’t fair.
