NRA endorsement of McCain destroys groups credibility (McNasty attempting to buy his reelection)
Before It's News ^ | 2010-06-05

Those who are familiar with this site will recall that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has been on the Seeing Red AZ blogroll since the inception of this website in June 2007. Take a good hard look, because the link will soon be coming down.

Yesterday we posted the endorsements U.S. Senate candidate J. D. Hayworth received from former NRA President Bob Corbin and from theGun Owners of America. Yet the NRA, which has previously referred to John McCain as “one of the premier flag carriers for the enemies of the second amendment,” inexplicably gave McCain their endorsement.

In endorsing Hayworth, the Gun Owners of America (GOA) said: “John McCain has gone out of his way to earn the ire of conservatives and gun owners in his 20-plus years as a U.S. Senator from Arizona.”

Watch this GOA ad exposing John McCain’s efforts to constrain our First and Second Amendment Rights. Then read what GOA’s Political Victory Fund says about McCain here.

This indefensible approval is akin to the shameful endorsement of McCain by Arizona Right to Life (AZRTL) which resulted in members of the board and PAC leaving the organization and calling the endorsement of McCain an “egregious affront.” AZRTL acknowledgedthat J.D. Hayworth “had a perfect pro-life voting record during his service in the U.S. House of Representatives,“ but it was evident McCain’s financial support via buying tables at events meant more. ARTL said the determining factors in their endorsement decision were “incumbency and electability,“ both political considerations — neither of which incorporate the fundamental principle of protection of the unborn.

And the equally hypocritical NRA?

Here is their July 20, 2001 First Freedom magazine cover story and accompanying article titled, What’s Happened to John McCain? The tag-line accompanying the damning photo of him with Democrats Chuck Schumer and Joe Lieberman accuses John McCain of “jeopardizing the freedom of law-abiding gun owners.”

We strongly urge you to read it, and then join us in enrolling as a member in Gun Owners of America.

Didn’t they all but endorse Harry Reid, too?
I think they’re more interested in upholding the status quo these days.
Incombents have power, so the post-Heston NRA will engage in a little back-scratching to get some of it.

It’s simple. Monday morning call and write and cancel your memberships. Make sure to say “You’re not endorsing these people in my name.” Throw that favorite saying of the liberals right back in their faces. When the NRA sees their money disappear they’ll get the message.

Cuba was taken when the Commander of Army, being a Commie Mole, told the 48.000 man Army to lay down arms against 1,800 man Commie force. So Cuba was lost by a traitor at the top.
Why mention this historical fact? NRA is assuming the same treasonous role because of corruption at the top! IMHO
NRA, AARP and all like treasonous organizations can go straight to HE77 in my book!
Any questions?

The NRA needs to cut out the sleaze, and focus on helping America survive what is happening. Reid and McCain are part of the problem, not the solution.

As a former NRA/ILA member, I sometimes wonder what they are up to these days. Not that I was ever able to contribute as much as I wished.

We had to part ways over the Joaquin Jackson embarrassment.

I’ve been tearing up NRA mail for months. Anyone who would endorse Harry Reid gets nothing from me anymore.

The NRA is focused solely on gun issues and appear to be blind to anything else.

No one here seems to understand the intent of the NRA: prevent laws that violate the 2nd amendment. It isn’t to elect conservatives. Are they successful? Take a look at the last 2 years. Democrat supermajorities and how many federal gun laws? They passed ccw in national parks!

Just because you don’t understand the purpose of the NRA, don’t get upset at them for being successful. Know their role.

Where are all the usual NRA butt kissers now?

The NRA is every bit the traitor as the RINO’s and democrats that they endorse. GOA and JPFO have been getting my donation money for the past 5 years.

The NRA actively seek out laws that violate the 2nd amendment through compromise. They laud the unconstitutional NICS system and seek to strengthen it. Remember the veterans disarmament bill?

McCain Urges Closing Gun Show Loophole but Touts Gun Rights in NRA Address

IMHO, it's because McCain is an incumbent, but their calculus is flawed, or they're getting senile. Here's an excerpt:

A few years ago, McCain joined with Independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman in calling for gun safety legislation, specifically advocating background checks at gun shows, which traditionally do not require criminal checks for purchase.(From private sellers, that is, not licensed firearm dealers which are required by law to perform a NICS backround check.)

McCain reiterated this stance, saying “I recognize that gun shows are enjoyed by millions of law-abiding Americans. I do not support efforts by those who seek to regulate them out of existence. But I believe an accurate, fair and instant background check at guns shows is a reasonable requirement.” In 2001, McCain’s work on an initiative called “Americans For Gun Safety,” drew criticism from the NRA, which called him “one of the premier flag carriers for the enemies of the Second Amendment,” in an article that appeared in the organization’s national magazine “America’s First Freedom” in July of that year, the Huffington Post reported.

That was my comment in parentheses. It's an example of how poor PBS' reporting has become. IIRC, transfer of firearms between family members was also supposed to require a NICS check.
