I had the pleasure of attending the Summer Bash that the Republican Jewish Coalition held last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. There was a powerful speaking line up that (among others)included talk show host Dennis Praeger, actor-statesman John Voight, Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, (former) Congressman Norm Coleman, and Karl Rove.
A very moving evening with some wonderful speeches. If there was one message that seemed to resonate with all the speakers was that the next election may very well be the most important of our generation. My own personal bias was that Karl Rove was the most fascinating person of the evening to listen to of all of them. One interesting point he made was that the super majority in the Congress was decided by only 26,000 votes, that we all have time to affect the outcome of the next election by trying to convince the people we know to get out and vote. A few votes can sway the election.
If there were other FReepers in the room last night, I would love to hear your take.
It seemed that there were standing ovations for the major speakers every other minute. There was a lot of pent up angst in the room. Lots of frustration and a place to vent it with applause.
I would love to know if there were other FReepers in the room.
That must have been a fun evening!
Where the heck was David Horowitz? Mark Levin? Ari Fleischer? (Maybe Horowitz and Levin are libertarian/independents.)
Any discussion at the event of an increase in membership? In other words, are liberal American Jews leaving the Democratic Party of Bigots?
Was there any mention of the inimitable Helen Thomas?
Not sure where Horowitz, Fliescher, and and Levin were last night, but if they had been there, we would have been there at least another hour or two. As it was, they managed the time and the guests just right I think.
And yes, I think that the RJC is growing. There were a couple of RNC bigshots there so the Republican party is taking notice of the conservative Jews and encouraging it. Michelle Bachman is an inspiration. Very passionate about her views. She talked about how Nancy Pelosi is targeting her district in a big way. The democRATs can't stand her.
Helen Thomas? You might say her name came up. A lot. She was the butt of jokes all night long.
Truth is, that it was a lot of "feel good" "preaching to the choir", but it was good to be there and give support. I made a point to go to Michelle Bachman to wish her well. Karl Rove was an education though. Very sharp.
Thanks for the report and good news. Hey, I think “preaching to the choir” makes for a louder and stronger voice!
Mark Levin is a Conservative Republican
There was a support Israel rally Fri in San Diego, am sure there will be more.
BTW, Norm Coleman was a Senator.
I hope he runs again for office.
Thank you for the corection. I liked what I say of him. I hope he runs again too.
Time for conservative Jews [and Hispanics, and Blacks, and Gays] to come out of the closet. Glad you had a great evening :-)
