Cancer vs Jesus

By Wesley Wilson, Age 12

Let's face it. We all hate cancer. But when you read John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life," that gives us something to think about.

Jesus' way is the only way. You won't be misled.

Jesus' truth is the only truth you can always depend on in good times and bad.

And the most important, The Life is the only thing we live for. Some people say there's no cure for cancer. Jesus is the only cure for cancer.

And that's the truth.

Editor's Note: Wesley is my son, and he's writing this about his daddy who has gone to at-home hospice this week.

As the creator of all things, why do you think God decided to create cancer? Why didn’t He create humans so that they can live disease free, or even grow new limbs?

To answer you question, He probably did. The Creation was corrupted by sin.

I had cancer. I had cancer surgery, and have been cancer-free ever since. Going through that has been one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. I thank the Lord for my cancer.

That’s a very nice letter. Cancer, as with all tough battles, brings one so close to Christ they can hear Him breathing on the Cross. Amd that’s when one gets to really become good buddies with Jesus, and when one (if they eventually accept their plight with joy and Love) can become “healed” as well.

He did create perfect human beings, and asked those humans to walk with him in harmony forever. However, the humans (the first Adam) chose not to trust Him, bringing about a curse on all humanity and the earth (which includes disease).

The good news is that He is compassionate and patient with us - enough to provide a way back to harmony with God. That Way is His only begotten Son - the last Adam, who lived the perfect life (that we couldn't live) in our place. And, since the wages of sin is death, His Son died in our place - once for all time, that believers might live forever with our Creator.

That is exactly my story too.

It brought me closer to God, closer to my family, adjusted my priorities. I have more peace now. It was one of the best things to ever happen to me. :-)

Sickness and death entered the world when Adam fell.

Please understand that the article above was written by a 12 year old who has a father in hospice care because of cancer.

Wesley and family, I pray that you will know that Jesus, while on the cross, took upon himself all the misery and suffering that your father/husband is going through.

Prayers it is God’s will for healing for Wesley’s dad, if not, then for the ultimate healing.

Hugs.

Didn’t God know that was going to happen?

Doesn’t He know, prior to creating them, what they will do in life?

And God knew this would happen, that Adam would fall, didn’t He?

Yes, God knew it would happen.

You are tapping on the window of “the problem of evil.” There have been countless sermons, Bible studies, and books on the subject.

God can stop evil. Why doesn’t He? God could have prevented the Fall. Why didn’t He?

There is probably not enough bandwidth on FR for me to address the topic, but it is addressed to a large degree in Romans chapter 9.

I will conclude by saying that while God did not prevent all evil, He prevents a whole lot of it. Also, He provided a way out at immeasurable personal price.

I recommend an inexpensive book. “God and Evil, the Problem Solved” by Gordon H. Clark. It is about five bucks and is an in depth, biblical examination of the question.

“Didn’t God know that was going to happen?”
Peering through a dark smoky glass it is hard for me to say “what God knows”.

He is omniscient, and didn’t choose to create robots. See Persevero response - it’s a good one.

You’ll find it’s really all about trust....trusting the most (and only) trustable One in the universe. When we decide our plan would have been better, we make of ourselves a god. That god is too small & insufficient.

So if God is omniscient, and God cannot be wrong...how can something He knows will happen, not happen?
