Youve heard about the yellow screen splotches and the wonky antenna that requires you to hold the new iPhone just right.
But now a new issue is coming to light: a faulty camera system that not only affects your ability to take pictures, it can foil your attempts to use FaceTime, the video chat feature that is the iPhone 4s top talking point.

Appears to be a combination of software bugs and hardware issues, and the only thing that's actually worked is to just send your phone back. Resets, restores, power-downs, nothing else works.
There is no problem with the iPhone camera, you just aren’t holding the image right.
Ping! The question is do I ping Swordmaker as well, since he’ll probably just call this FUD once again, and blow it off as a non-issue, and the actions of a hater.
LOL! You always provide a great laugh!
Unfortunately for you all, the extent of my humor is going to just revolve around that one comment (until Steve Jobs says something else stupid).
And the hits just keep on a-comin’...
And meanwhile RIMM sells at 10.5x this year’s earnings while the analytical community assumes it will never grow again.
A few more of these and we will see how quick corporate technology departments put the hold on buying Apple products for their company.
Add to the list of growing MAJOR iphone issues.
And with the weekends hacking of all of those accounts, apple just seems to making junk now days.
I don’t see too much adoption of iPhones in the corporate world, especially considering how bad the Mobile Me product is compared to Blackberry.
My friend who is a Droid podcaster for HTC (yea he is biased) calls the iPhone a Barbie toy. It is almost like they took the exact opposite approach they did with their PCs.
Nothing to see here, move along....
Ping! I assume you’ll keep it on the up and up?
Give it time, Steve will be back in the office tomorrow to say something else wonderful...;)
quite literally, nothing to see... bahaha
Apple.com is not a reputable source, sorry. I mean thats not adequate for the ‘arbitrary code execution’ problem, so its hardly going to be sufficient in this case.
Apple has a problem on its hands and it won’t be solved with smugness and the sarcasm of Apple fan boys.
Safari is also prone to locking up and the HTML isn't rendered as well.
Interestedly, the camera works way better than it every did on OS3.
Personally, I don't think OS4 was ready for release.
Can't let Droid suck up the market share, you know. Better to release a product half-a$$ed and fix it later (after the AT&T contracts are signed so you can't say "to heck with the iPhone") than let Android get the sale. That's the nature of consumer electronics.
The Trolls are at it again.
Hmmm... I read somewhere a post that stated "You should cc when alluding to him.". I wish that person would follow their own advice...;)
Have you tried holding it differently? ;)
Seriously though, of the dozen iPhone owners I know (two are brand-new-to-Apple iPhone 4 buyers) 4 have problems (including both the iPhone 4 buyers). I think you’re right; iOS 4 just isn’t ready for prime time, as it seems to depend upon the mix of apps, memory usage, and phase of the moon to determine what works and what doesn’t. In some aspects the phone is improved, but in others it’s seriously degraded (or stopped altogether).
Who are the Trolls? Who should I have pinged?
I and some friends are on iOS 4 on 3G's with no problems...and the camera does seem to be better...plus with zoom...
I see. So you don’t know who the trolls are, but you know they are at it again and so you must complain about it. Curious statement!
So who were you referring to as “trolls” in this thread? Clearly not me or for-q-clinton, since you didn’t copy us on it...
I am a first time iPhone buyer although I am a 20 year Apple user with about a dozen of their products.
I have two friends who also bought the iPhone 4. All are previous Mac users. I have 4 co-workers who bought the iPhone 4, none of which uses a Mac as a computer. For one of them it was his first Apple product.
I do not doubt the problems but none of the people who bought the phone that I know has problems.
The phone can be returned.
“So who were you referring to as trolls in this thread?”
Might have been me, but she’d didn’t cc me either. I guess anything negative about apple is considered FUD, a lie, trolling, evil, slander, libel, or some such nonsense.
I would have purchased an iPhone a while back if they had been on Verizon. Seems I waited too long and they’ve jumped the shark.
If I refer to someone by their user name in my post, I cc them.
I have a good idea this morning who the trolls are, but why necessarily name them? I do know that you specifically thrive on bashing Apple specifically. Something in your psyche likes the negativity and dispute that your threads stir up.
If you bashed all computer makers, it might make sense.
I can only say I have had nearly 20 years of almost flawless experience with the brand. I recommend their products without hesitation.
You would not have purchased it because it costs too much. Remember, you want to buy the cheapest.
For some people it seems to be solid; for others (see post 17 above) it’s not working so well.
One of the biggest problems when rolling out an OS is the backwards compatibility; as that has not been a strong suit for Apple in the past, maybe that’s the source of this inconsistent behavior - their relative inexperience with backwards compatibility on a widely varying product line? Just a guess why you don’t have a problem and someone else in this very thread does...
Thanks for that, and for clearing me from being a troll; after all, you would have named me rather than just alluded to me and not copied me.
I’m sure for-q-clinton, driftdiver, and anyone else in this thread is also happy to hear they’re not trolls either! I guess your caution about them being present has kept them at bay so far...
I am about to amend my policy on Trolls, named and un-named. Stay tuned and remember I said this.
Apple must be doing something right. They have much higher scores in customer satisfaction than any other computer maker.

Apple tied with Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola (the big 3 of cell phones), and all 4 are slightly under the market average. Of course, that's not quite the meme you are trying to convey, is it?
Why would a company that you so totally despise actually TIE with three companies that you admire?
Why aren’t they failing miserably? You must be totally deranged if you are telling us apple is so horrible. Apparently not. Why devote your life to stirring up such negativity to a company that TIES?
And as a company, they are succeeding very well. Why?
Where have I said I despise Apple? I do own a Macbook Pro... You can stop putting words in my mouth, thank you.
Then why do you constantly post negative remarks and threads on Apple?
What drives your deep ire? What please do you derive from the disruption?
Then why do you constantly post negative remarks and threads on Apple?
What drives your deep ire? What pleasure do you derive from the disruption?
Must be those phantasmic trolls in this thread... Let me know when you find them, that might be the source of the negativism and ire you claim to see.
Returning a phone used to be easy, but in this case, with the microSIM, you’re screwed and can’t go back to your old phone. I’m guessing AT&T would probably reactivate the old one if I asked, but I could see that taking some time and the aggravation of listening to them pretend that such a thing has never happened before.
I’m definitely worried about it. My iPhone 4 will arrive tomorrow and I’m hoping I can check it out well enough before activating the SIM to make sure it’s in full working condition.
What pleasure do you derive by going around blindly praising and defending all things Apple while calling everyone who doesn’t toe the Jobs line a ‘troll’? Answer that and you can answer your own question.
Do you only have one computer? Why did you buy a Macbook Pro? Do you like it?
Why do you start threads that mostly bash Apple?
Do you feel that people should chose which platform they like? Should people be able to buy what they like?
You’ve already seen the customer satisfaction surveys, they are mostly satisfied. Why are you trying to convince people that they are really not satisfied when they say they are?
Dear, if you want to talk about computers, we can, but let’s do that in another thread. This is about the iPhone, after all. Try to at least stay on topic. After all, trying to hijack a thread is often considered trollish behavior!
Now that said, do you have an iPhone running iOS 4? Have you seen camera issues?
I don’t blindly praise Apple. And the customer satisfaction surveys say that people overwhelmingly like what they buy from Apple.
If we like the product, can we say so?
As I mentioned, I have one Apple desktop, 4 laptops, various iPad, iPods and other items from Apple. All of them have been wonderful [except I had to repair a touch pad about 15 years ago].
I still have all but my first Mac. Every single one still works. My experiences with Apple’s tech support [all native English speakers] and the iTunes and App store has been satisfactory.
I’m a big fan of industrial design and Apple, for the most part, not always, does it better than the rest.
See my post #25
I know 7 iPhone 4 users, including myself.
You’re afraid of stating your motivation for Apple bashing. I find that very telling.
We’re satisfied, you’re deeply unsatisfied.
‘You would not have purchased it because it costs too much. Remember, you want to buy the cheapest.”
Not the cheapest, the best value. I don’t like to pay extra for the name unless I think there is actually value there.
Do you realize most Apple owners are very, very satisfied? If you do, then why try to convince them they are wrong?
Note that Federal law requires cell phone carriers to let you out of a contract in the first 30 days. And just recently Apple finally waived their 10% restocking fee (which they used to enforce, even if in the first 30 days), so the worst will be reprogramming a normal SIM as needed.
I see you’re also an on-line psychologist, as well as a phantasmic troll fighter. A varied skill set, to say the least!
So why do you think so many people are having problems with the camera applications on iOS 4 phones?
“Why do you start threads that mostly bash Apple?’
Why is an accurate story about a real problem people are having considered ‘bashing’? Are you trying to hide problems? Control the message so to speak.
No more so than users of Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola phones. In fact, in cell phones, they're a middle-of-the-pack performer in terms of customer satisfaction.
