Im confused, the left always says we cant question their patriotism, yet Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive magazine, hates America and hes proud of it. Note: We all know the vast majority of the left feels this way but dont have the b-lls to admit it publicly
(The Progressive)- Its July 4th, my least favorite holiday.
And Im not referring to the bugs, or the crowds, or the traffic on the highways.
Im talking about the mindless patriotic bubble bath were all supposed to soak in all weekend long.
Well, not me.
My heart does not beat faster at the strains of the Star Spangled Banner, much less at the sight of F-16s flying overhead to kick off the show.
You see, I dont believe in patriotism.
You can call me unpatriotic if youd like, but really Im anti-patriotic.
Ive been studying fascism lately, and there is one inescapable fact about it:
Nationalism is the egg that hatches fascism.
And patriotism is but the father of nationalism.
Patriotism is not something to play with. Its highly toxic. When ingested, it corrodes the rational faculties.
American patriotism has also gotten in the way of solving global warming. Many in the United States, which consumes 25 percent of the worlds resources but has just 4 percent of the worlds population, believe we have the God-given right to use up all the resources we can. And there is an all-too-common attitude that we dont need to listen to any other countries, or the U.N., or obey any international agreements because were Americans, and were better than everybody else.
Weve got to get over patriotism, and weve got to cure the American superiority complex.
He's perfectly welcome to leave for whatever second or third world Marxist paradise he thinks is better...and please Matthew, don't even think about returning!
The North American Hippy Loon will never become an endangered species. They are all over the place.
Actually he disproves his point, because by his own admittance his utter corrosion of rational faculties can't come from patriotism.
Matt should spend more time in a nonpatriotic country
North Korea perhaps? Cuba? Russia? Germany? South Africa? Iran? Liechtenstein?
Ahh, so the elimination of nations would solve the problem. Okay anarchist, which village you gonna belong to?
If they're not endangered, does that mean it's OK to hunt them? When are they in season?
Sigh. I miss Bloom County.
He is just spreading misinformation. He knows socialism leads to fascism.
LOL! A true classic!
This is written as if Barry Soetero himself authored it.
By its very nature, there has never been a sovereign country that did not encourage patriotism. Relatively few of them have become Fascist in a real sense (as opposed to left-conformist hyperbole).
Rothschild really only decries American patriotism, out of malice toward this country specifically, or more likely out of ignorance of the kind of jingoism and nationalism that are a way of life in Europe, the communist countries, and the rest of the America-hating parts of the world. The degree of nationalistic boasting we hear from European visitors would be embarrassing to Americans if it weren’t so infuriating in its transparent hypocrisy.
One usually hears this from people I call hinterland elitists, college grads or students who had high status in the back-of-beyond towns where they grew up, but who find themselves struggling to maintain that status when they get out into the big world.
If you’re around students much at all, this is as characteristic as a finger print. The loudmouthed lefties are invariably children of local muckety-mucks and small business owners who find themselves in shock at not being anything special anymore, hence the attention-grabbing embrace of contrarian politics. As Dennis Miller said, “Contrarianism is distinction for the untalented.”
This is as far from truth as can be.
It is not patriotism that causes facism.
It is the willingness to invest the government with too much power. Like your health care, your car purchases, your energy supply, etc.
I have a few choice things I would love to call him and if lucky enough to be able to do it face to face I am confident in my ability to wipe the "intellectual" attitude right out of his demeanor and bring out the REAL commie in him.
You know, when the little twisted sick-o libs get all red-faced, screechy and start dropping "f-bombs," M-Fs and incoherent accusations about "Bush."
Hurray for internationalism = one big happy family behind barbed wires, all equal with nothing, ruled by red morons?
The way Kenyan is going, we will soon celebrate May 1 - International Worker’s Day instead of Independence Day.
ping (for the cartoon)
The moronic left wants people to think that other nations use less by choice. It because those nations don't have the capability of doing such.
