Welcome to my world Steve Jobs, when tech stuff breaks down!
Today Apple will hold a presser today on the issue of the problems with the reception issues of its new iPhone 4. This is a first for Apple. Give Apple CREDIT that it is addressing the issue RIGHT AWAY.

For those who do not want to go to the blog.
“This is a first for Apple. Give Apple CREDIT that it is addressing the issue RIGHT AWAY.”
Right away? The issue was identified right after release. A senior Apple engineer told Jobs about it before the phone was released. They’ve been selling people a $30 solution to fix their problem.
Rush said yesterday his and the 40 he gave away as presents are all working and out of 41 phones... no one can duplicate this “problem”.
Compared to what has been going on in the Gulf of Mexico, what Apple did would be considered FAST.
Call Rush today during his show. He was adament about it... Snurdley backed him up. I do not know... I am just reporting what was said. I do not buy into any apple technology... I do not like the company and never have... but that is just me.
Kinda picking a low bar there. Compared to Jimmy Carter's effort to rescue the hostages in Iran, Apple is moving like lightening.
APPLE seems to have dropped the ball on this. One rumor had it that during BETA testing, users phones had a “border” around them to prevent others from observing the new phone. This “border” acted as an “antenna” of sorts. Thus giving false readings. No idea if this is true or not.
APPLE’s failure to put BLU RAY on their new Macs/MacBooks/etc. are hurting them as well.
“Give Apple CREDIT that it is addressing the issue RIGHT AWAY.”
Uh, they lied about it at first, and Jobs gave snarky responses about “holding it the wrong way”.
And it’s been how many weeks?
Problem is fixed! iOS 4.0.1 has a new icon set so that the lowest signal strength bar is now twice as high as it was before. See, your reception is better already!
I’ve seen in various sources including CR, that touching the gap between the two metal bands on the phone will decrease the signal 20 dB.
If you live in a metro area with multiple close, strong signals, you may never notice the loss. That does not mean that there is not a loss or that it won’t be a problem when leaving an area with good coverage.
I really like Rush but he is off base.
You have it backwards. After the fix, no matter where you are, you only get one bar which obviously means the problem is with AT&T.
“Compared to what has been going on in the Gulf of Mexico, what Apple did would be considered FAST.”
Interesting comparison, would appear to me to be irrelevant though.
Carefully wrap around perimeter of the iPhone, covering the metal band.
Sounds like a two-fer lawsuit.
Like I said before... I just repeated what he said. Seems like a good opportunity for you and others to call his show today and challenge him on it.
Call him today and tell him... I just repeated what he said... and he bought 41... how many did you buy?
I have had my iPhone 4 for 2 weeks- works perfectly- Rush is Right.
If I were to call his show, I would prefer to discuss something important.
Man up.... use duct tape. LOL
It even comes in camo.
If you glue a small piece of soft rubber to the back of the phone, you can keep an emergence fishing hook with you, even when you have misplaced your ball cap.
So as you can see, it’s not just an iPhone anymore, it’s a Survival Phone.
A Handyman's favorite tool!
There you go. ;>)
emergence = emergency
Note to self: Drink first cup before typing.
I have the iPhone 4 from day one and have several friends and co-workers who bought it early.
I can sometimes replicate the reduction in bars but phone reception is good with no dropped calls. My home service, which used to be with dropped calls from Verizon, has so far been great. Will it stay that way? I don’t know.
But for me, and the other people I mentioned, it has not been a problem.
We are right in the middle of a Smartphone war and the biggest detractors making the biggest objections to the problem are people who do not have an iPhone, do not like Apple for the most part. So, at least on FR, the big stink about the phone are the Apple trolls.
I saw one person on FR who did have a problem and, I think, should return the phone.
I agree with you.
I truly appreciate your information.
So I guess you are saying that Apple is holding this press conference the right way?
Per Engadget, Apple will be providing free cases for all iPhone 4’s purchased before the end of September.
Which sounds like a factory fix is in the works and new phones should be available before then.
