ABC Action News from Tampa International Airport: Advanced imaging technology, or body scan, is the latest tool in the war on terror. They are designed to detect a wide range of threats, but some parents think they're a threat to kids since it is a clear, naked image. Officers view images in a locked and are not allowed to carry a cell phone.....

Visiting a pediatrician for a full check up must also be child porn, by this same standard.

The hiring standards for the TSA verses your typical pediatrician are more than worlds apart.

Hardly.

When I was 10 (back in 1985), I was in a body cast due to a broken femur and lived in the hospital for 2 months, with a pin through my knee, and in traction.

During this time, I was routinely subjected to x-rays and tests outside of my hospital room and while my parents were not present.

Of course, this was before cell phones were widespread.

This story is a little nutty, but I don't believe the part where it says that the people are in a locked room and are not allowed to have cell phones.

Maybe they are not supposed to have cell phones, but I bet if they wanted to have them in there, they easily could.

IN England, the staff has been 'trading' the scanned images between staff.

What standard? A medical exam by a doctor is like a TSA operated body scanner how?

Um... Only if you get off on Xray images.

The thrust of the artical is that being seen naked equals child pornography.

Its only porno if you are in the locked room getting your jollies off.
Personally, I don’t care. Ill never see those people again and I’d rather know that the guy next to me went through the same scrutiny so I won’t fall 30,000 from the sky.

No it isn’t, it’s about the ability to put children through a scanner and produce a naked image. Heaven only knows what is going to happen to that image. If a Doctor was taking naked pictures of children then it would be a comparable scenario.

Parents who fly with their kids know their kids will be scanned so, don’t fly. The airlines will lose income and will be forced to develop other means of searches.

Except it’s not going improve security. Remember the underwear bomber? This was the technology that was supposed to foil these types of attempts. Guess what...this type of scanner won’t actually detect plastic or liquid explosives like the type used by the underwear bomber but it will take nice naked pictures of you, your wife, and your kids. Other then that it isn’t good for mutch of anything.

Still hatet the idea some TSA weenie running these things - how safe are they - really?

With these scanners, keep in mind the people who are operating them. They’re the same who arrest passengers who carry large amounts of cash, who ridicule handicapped elderly ladies in wheelchairs, who routinely act beyond the limits of their very narrowly defined authority. And any survey of defendants arrested for either possession of child porn, or involvement in child sex rings will show a regular representation of federal government employees among them.

Anyone recall the SEC lawyers and regulators who were downloading porn instead of watching Bernie Madoff, or investigating Freddie, Fannie, Barnie and Chris? There’s nothing inherently noble any more about being a federal employee, and even less so as the government expands, already nearly to the point where all that’s left to hire are those with damaged records, compromised character and sordid histories.

TSA workers are folks from the general population - it’s just seems the FedGov has a filter to pick just the fat/dumb/rude ones to work for them

That and the low wages....

It could just be me, it’s to the point I hate to fly - mostly now for funerals....

"We as a people need to push back against all these intrusions.

Here's where the left wants to take things. Gas goes up to $10-15 x gallon. Congress keeps pushing rail and bus, and only a precious few elite can afford to keep up their vehicles. Once the sheep are all herded onto the buses and trains, a 7/7 type event happens here and you won't be able to go anywhere without an intrusive rectal exam. Note that the TSA is "Transportation Security", and not "Air Passenger Security". They will extend their purview of planes, trains, automobiles, canoes and roller blades before this is all over.

I fly a lot, and the obese part is the most obvious common element.

But have you ever stood back and listened to two of these folks converse as they’re conversing as they sit there making sure no one walks in through the concourse exit corridors (a decidedly boring task)? I’ve concluded that these folks must have cheated to pass the GED.

Instead of hiring the brightest and best who apply, the TSA certainly must start at the bottom and go up for their prospective employees.

Without some radical deviation from our present course (hopefully starting this November), I'd say it's a virtual fait accompli.

You are too kind.

OTOH, you do get what you pay for - here in Anchorage, most of the ‘screeners’ are part-time/on-call. Most folks I know would not take that gig.... and we know some that have started with TSA but have quit in disgust.

The envisonment is the worst of what the FedGov offers.

What you’re saying is TSA gets what they pay for. You certainly may have a valid point. Prior to Thousands-Standing-Around, many airports had very professional people working security and they were adequately performing the duties with substantially fewer numbers.

If the pay went up, I doubt the quality improvement would be commensurate. Even their supervisory types look seedy to me.

The folks I know that worked for TSA (past tense) had quit is disgust - mostly because of the completely inept management - from the very top down.

Imagine a manager that YOU have to work for every day that has:

the worst of a ‘Regular Army' mindset
coupled with the laziness of the worst shovel leaner on a road crew
married to zero management training
allied with a desire to nano-manage (not even micro-manage) so the manager will never look bad (or conversely, always ‘look good’)
with the get up and go of a postal employee nearing retirement

and you get a taste of what life is like 'on the inside'. Eck - no thanks.

What exactly is the difference between adults and children in this situation? If the staff are titillated by scans of adults, that’s okay, but if they see and are titillated by scans of children, that’s sick and criminal? I really don’t see how this puts children at any more risk than adults.

True, they are still both be illegal. But this technlogy would only provide further opportunities of encouragement for sex sickos which could ultimately put children at more more risk than adults!
