What’s up with the fist posters?

Fists?

Let me first state that I sympathize to the cause of the people involved in Freedom Works organization. However their resent artwork looks like photoshoped Soviet posters. It’s like somebody erased Kremlin and put the Capitol on the background on their 9/12 tax-payer march on Washington DC poster.

Kim Jong Il is going crazy with envy looking at those fists at the 8/27 convention poster. He does not respect the copyrights so it is very possible for him to use the ‘fisty’ artwork as a center piece at the next parade in North Korea. The communist artists may add a nuke to the fists to make the message to the oppressors stronger.

The posters look as if the Freedom Works artist just erased the hammers and the sickles and added some blue to the red. Unfortunately they forgot to put the ballots in the fists. Because this is the American way: we move forward clashing ideas at the ballot box, not waving fists at each other.

The latest Freedom Works advertising on the net features the fists on the half of the image and the Constitution on the other half. I hope the organization is not transforming. My humble opinion is: stick with the Constitution. Wave a flag - not a fist.

What may seem like a cool choice for FreedomWorks art directors is a disturbing image for those of us who grew up in communist countries where fists were waving at us from textbooks, walls and street billboards. I would expect to see a bunch of fists from a union gathering where proletariat all over the world is uniting, ripping off the chains of oppression.

I am surprised and somewhat disappointed to see fists used to portrait the mood in America today.

As election nears passions grow hot and apparently the folks at Freedom Works got carried away. They are free to wave whatever they want. However it would be nice if we see fewer fists and more ballots in the future.

We are free to protest and organize. All you have to do is show up and greet each other, debate each other and communicate with each other. Fists are likely a communication killer not enhancer. Just saying!

It’s hard to kill communication when the other party refuses to communicate.

FreedonWorks is having an 8-27 rally? Did someone clear that with Glenn Beck, he might miss making a buck.

They do remind me of the black power salute
from the sixties and seventies. I think they could do a whole lot better with all of the creative talent out there.

The use of the fist in posters started with the Boxer Rebellion in northern China in the late 1800s or early 1900s IIRC.

Interesting..... the Boxer Rebellion got its name from Western translations of the insurgent group’s name, “Righteous Harmonious Fists”.

But the clenched fist salute has been a Communist trademark since, when, the Russian Revolution?

Anyway, what’s it doing here in America in political posters? This isn’t 1969. But for some (ahem, ahem) it’s never stopped being 1969. Won’t name names of the usual suspects.

LOL. There are several but that was the one I found humorous.

No correction to you. Just thought it was funny.

Yes, it is a bit disconcerting to see the fist as representative of taking our country back.

The only thing I can think of is that we're using their own symbolism on them? Taunting them with it?

‘The only thing I can think of is that we’re using their own symbolism on them? Taunting them with it?’

It could be, but it is not apparent from first impression.

You think the fists are about racial relations? On a tax-payer’s rally?

I know that the fist is a leftist, communist image that includes the feminist use of it and the black power use of it.

From Wiki:
“The raised fist (also known as the clenched fist) is a salute and logo most often used by left-wing activists, such as: Marxists, anarchists, socialists, communists, pacifists, trade unionists, and black nationalists. The raised fist is usually regarded as an expression of solidarity, strength or defiance. It dates back to the salute of Rotfrontkämpferbund, a paramilitary organization of the Communist Party of Germany before the WWII.”

“Groups that have used the symbol

I do know that the Jewish Defense League uses the fist in their logo.

A parody of that logo from the movie, "The Hebrew Hammer" is for the fictional Jewish Justice League.

To me it looks like either this organization was started by Leftists who are masquerading as those on the Right or it has been infiltrated by the Left. Probably best to stay away from them.

I agree with you. I like the idea of putting a ballot in the fist. That IS the American way.
