Mosque supporters beg George W. Bush to come to Obama's rescue
Washington Examiner ^ | August 16, 2010 | Byron York

Posted on 08/18/2010 7:57:22 AM PDT by RobinMasters

There's a new argument emerging among supporters of the Ground Zero mosque. Distressed by President Obama's waffling on the issue, they're calling on former President George W. Bush to announce his support for the project, because in this case Bush understands better than Obama the connection between the war on terror and the larger question of America's relationship with Islam. It's an extraordinary change of position for commentators who long argued that Bush had done grievous harm to America's image in the Muslim world and that Obama represented a fresh start for the United States. Nevertheless, they are now seeing a different side of the former president.

The left didn’t want anything to do with him not too long ago. What a bunch of maggots.

“Sharia and freedom are antithetical.”....

Exactly!...for liberals to believe otherwise is extremely stupid and dangerous!

The only possible right way for the President, former President, or any of our elected officials not representing New York, is this.......

“It’s not the Government’s role in deciding if a Church, Mosque, Synagogue, or Temple can be built on private land. It must be left up to the good people of New York and their elected officials, who have complete control and responsibility over local zoning ordinances, and who understand best the sensitivities of people who live and work in the down-town region near ground zero.”

That response may be an easy way to avoid the controversy, but at least I could respect it.

If Bush suppports Obama on Thursday, the Left will spit on Bush on Friday.

To support Obama is to be a tool. Don't be a tool, George.

“It’s time for W. to weigh in,” writes the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd. Bush, Dowd explains,
Like we should listen to that skank dowd?

This idiot feels like she would somehow be immune from Sharia Law? Loud mouth opinionated women will be the first to go.

Are we or are we not asking Iraqis to fight Al Qaeda? Muslims in Afghanistan to fight the Taleban?

Muslims have died fighting along side of us

Bush appealed to those who will help the fight

Your brand of stupidity will get us all killed

From Dowd's column today...

Let me be perfectly clear, Mr. Perfectly Unclear President: You cannot take such a stand on a matter of first principle and then take it back the next morning when, lo and behold, Harry Reid goes craven and the Republicans attack. What is so frightening about Fox News?

LMAO!

I disagree completely. GW should come out and say while the Imam has the LEGAL right to build the Cordoba House Mosque (notice how the MSM now calls it the Park51), that does not make it right. Skinheads have the right to protest in front of Jewish places of worship, but that does not make it right. Bush could do what Obama has utterly failed to do, and that is distingush between a legal right and a moral right as defined by our society.

Obama has his head so far in the clouds he says and does things because he can, he has no regard for the peoples opinion. GW could draw a sharp contrast with Obama and show the country what real leadership on this issue looks like.

That said, W will keep quiet because that is his post POTUS style.

"Bush might as well have been a Democrat the way he managed in his last term." - KeyLargo

Why do people say such idiotic things? In Bush's 2nd term, he sent Bolton to the UN (you think that a Democrat would have done that?!)

Bush built the second group of eight ABM silos in Alaska and California so that America has a land-based defense (in addition to our sea-based SM-3 and AEGIS systems) of 18 ABM's against North Korean nukes

Signed the Energy Bill (new tax cuts...after 5 years of Democratic opposition)

Signed into law full Immunity For Gun Manufacturers From Lawsuits (remember back when Democratic city mayors were constantly suing our gun makers?!)

5% unemployment

3.4% annual (after inflation, 5.5% actual) reported GDP Growth

Forced Syrian Troops to withdraw from Lebanon

Convinced Russian Troops to Peacefully Withdraw From Georgia

Chief Justice John Roberts

Dramatically improved U.S.-India relations via a breakthrough nuclear agreement

Signed Bankruptcy Reform Into Law

Have Bill and Hill come out with statements in support of the Ground Zero Mosque?

After all, they are NY residents.

Obviously there is no love lost between the ‘anointed one’ & Dubya. Bush was asked by Obama to partner with ‘slick willy’ in an effort to help the relief effort in Haiti. Both were invited to Washington to kick it off, when Hussein introduced the two at a presser and spoke about their mission Dubya appeared very uncomfortable. Not his warm self by any stretch, sort of like wrap this charade up and I'm headed back to Texas. The only reason I'm here is Laura insisted I attend.
