Columnist: Obama having trouble because rest of America ‘not as gifted’ (Margaret Carlson)
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/19/2010 | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 08/19/2010 9:04:29 AM PDT by markomalley

Here’s Bloomberg’s Margret Carlson this morning on the mosque controversy:

How can President Barack Obama be so right about the mosque and yet get it so wrong?

Here’s how: He is so supremely confident in his intellect that he forgets, on his way to the correct decision, to slow down and pick up not-so-gifted stragglers.

The controversy over locating a mosque close to Ground Zero in New York City created the perfect storm, putting Obama’s strengths and weaknesses into play.

He’s an intellectual comfortable with abstractions, a former editor of the Harvard Law Review, a constitutional scholar, a community organizer. When convinced he’s right — which is often — he turns his head at the podium to the right and left, gazing above his audience into the near distance, chin elevated, and makes his pronouncement about what is just and reasonable. We are expected to nod.

With the mosque, he didn’t bother with feelings when he saw that the U.S. Constitution and facts were on his side.

Everytime I think commentators can’t possibly hit new levels of arrogance and condescension on this mosque issue, I’m surprised yet again. Reciting Obama’s resume for the millionth time prove exactly nothing, and if you’re going to flatly declare that the “facts” and Constitution are firmly on one-side of the debate right away, why even bother writing the column? Further, if the idea is that Americans can’t handle abstractions, Carlson’s dead wrong about that. Here’s the Siena poll of New Yorkers on the mosque issue from yesterday:

Opposition remains strong against building the mosque, 63-27 percent, however, by a margin of 64-28 percent voters say that the  developers of the Cordoba House have a Constitutional right to build it.

Clear majorities in New York both don’t want it built, and recognize it’s generally not the government’s place to tell people whether they can build a church on private property. Those positions are not inconsistent. Holding fast those beliefs does, however, put one at odds a liberal elite desperate to prove they’re so much more tolerant than the little people.

Obama needs to give a nationally televised press conference about the Ground Zero Mosque every day from now until election day, so that he can teach us the wisdom of his beliefs

There can be no longer be a shred of doubt as to OBOWzo’s embrace of Marxism. That he is also is a veritable Mulligan Stew of psychological pathologies makes him even MORE dangerous. Even a shrink as bright at Charles Krauthammer has trouble finding enough words to adequately describe what’s going on in the guy’s head.

My take is that he is a rare form of idiot savant whose “gift” is an urge to engage in mindless and continual eloqution and public oratory. His egocentrism and narcissism — probably resulting from having been abandoned first by his father then his mother — found in ALL politicians has reached a far higher level in him than in others and requires him to be “on” and the center of attention at all times.

(Even MSNBC leftist talker Ed Shultz, fresh from a visit to the White House, reported that Obama has turned the place into a shrine to – surprise – OBAMA, with portraits of his first year – and hopefully, his LAST full year – in office EVERYWHERE! Can you say “egomaniac?”)

Couple that with the problem described by microbiologist P.B. Medawar that

“(…) the spread of secondary and latterly tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well-developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought”
and you have a formula for the creature known as Obama.

He is as lacking in the ability to think critically as are the voters who put him in office and who now bear full responsibility for the possibly irreparable damage now being done to this country by Obama and his minions.

The bigger problem – as pointed out by another Freeper – is that when the veneration by his former devotees fades and, like Hitler in his Berlin bunker, he begins to feel that they are not intelligent enough to appreciate his “brilliance,” he could become an even more dangerous and destructive creature than he is now.

...it’s true... not everyone is accorded the same treatment as Obama; things like Affirmative Action.

I believe it was Aristotle who said “The only stable society is one in which all men are equal before the law.”

Carlson is so representative of the MSM/LSM, it just isn’t surprising to read this tripe. They built the image of the One, the genius, the brilliant. Now they either believe their own propaganda or they’re just unwilling to admit how screwed up they were/are.

The only way to rationalize politically dumb statements and self-defeating actions is to frame them as on a different plane, to cast Obummer as so lofty and ethereal in his thinking that he just can’t comprehend how we, the unwashed. could possibly recoil at his notions.

When you analyze that angle, you see that it is entirely contradictory. How can the one be so brilliant in his conceptualizing and yet so stupid in his political alacrity?

I guess we’re to believe the country has elected the ‘Absent Minded Professor” as POTUS.

They can talk about how this mosque is all about bridge building and reconciliation, but we know how it will be seen in the Muslim World. It will be the famous Ground Zero Touchdown Dance Mosque, a symbol of Islamic triumph over the infidel.

What they say here and what they do there are often different things. Remember this guy?

In the hospital, he's just about to die... Then after a quick trip to Libya, he's miraculously cured! We've seen this song and dance before, and it's getting old.

a community organizer.

If "community organizer" actually meant that he organized communities, and if he was actually any good at it, then mediating this dispute should be right up his alley. In actual communities, people have zoning disagreements all the time. If they're lucky, people who aren't elitist narcissists will listen to both sides and come up with some sort of equitable solution.

For instance, New York Governor Patterson offered a very reasonable solution - allow the mosque to be relocated to land currently owned by the State of New York. That's the sort of thing a real "community organizer" does.
