Philly Wants Bloggers to Pay $300 Tax

Are you a blogger in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania? Do you have Google Adsense or some other sort of low-return ads on your blog? If so expect a letter soon from your friendly city treasurer demanding that you pay a $300 tax on your "money making business."

For most people that maintain an active blog it is just a hobby. Some people blog daily but most only do so a few times a month. Many bloggers also participate in Google's advertising program called Adsense but few make much more than $20 or $30 a year from the effort.

But according to the City of Philadelphia, you have a lucrative business one that you need to register with the city and either pay $50 a year tax or a "lifetime" fee of $300 to be allowed to operate.

Naturally the Philly bloggers that have gotten this letter are flabbergasted. None of them were even aware they have a taxable business with their blog. Ah, but the city disagrees...

These morons in gov't are the lowest of the low. Imagine calling a blog a "business"? Almost NO ONE makes any real money from a blog.

The cost to exercise your FREEdom of Press is $300.

And the newspapers are suddenly quiet .... that’s surprising < /sarcasm>

It’s called “legalized” theft. And bloggers must IGNORE the tax...EN MASSE. Will the city turn off your power? Confiscate your home? Shoot you?? It’s time we the “little people” took a stand and told the ruling class to F*** OFF!!!

Leftists at work. They HATE anyone DARING to make ONE CENT without them getting a cut.
Disgusting.

Philadelphia's population is nearly a half million less than it was in 1940, but its city government has grown by nearly five fold. Gotta' keep those kleptocrats fed. See: Phila. Census

Keep in mind the “business privilege license” itself is an outrage. Then there is Philly’s 100% taxation of your next year’s business IN ADVANCE, plus a tax of receipts meaning you can lose money and still owe the city taxes.

Philadelphia is an anti business, high tax nightmare, with plenty of resources spent on left wing social engineering.

IOW, exactly what Obama is doing to all of us now.

This is beyond Vulgar. I run a small UB Sports blog that gets maybe 150-200 hits a day. My Adsence ‘revenue’ yielded 24$ last year and I used that on the purchase of a domain name..

99% of bloggers make next to nothing, to take this is to tax free speech!

The New Press has taken up the job of media —questioning government. The Legacy Press supports government.

Gosh, how funny that the Government would tax the New Press, huh?

I wonder which one will thrive in the future..?
