Palin’s conservative fans need to reassess her “victories”

The Hill runs a report crediting Sarah Palin for her many Republic primary victories. Before conservatives take too much pleasure in such news, read how she is credited with helping sweep John McCain to victory. Palin traveled to Arizona and made numerous campaign appearances with McCain, bringing him the Tea Party creds he so desperately needed to undercut the fact that he is a nearly three-decades-long, left-leaning Washington insider.

That Palin chose to conveniently back McCain over conservative former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth is a truth that should not soon be forgotten. Her help, McCain’s falsely running to the right, taking positions adverse to his established ones and $21 million dollars in attack ads did the trick.

Sarah Palin is all about expediency. She is no conservative.

Palin also showed that her support can help an establishment candidate, and not just a Tea Party-styled insurgent.

Palin backed her 2008 ticketmate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), against former Rep. J.D. Hayworth. McCain won after moving to the right, particularly in his position on immigration. That was enough to defeat Hayworth, a former congressman who had tried to run to the right of the longtime senator.

McCain's former running mate endorsed him earlier this year and campaigned in Arizona in March. The endorsement from the Tea Party star undercut Hayworth's arguments that McCain was a Washington insider.

McCain is a POS and a very good friend to The Imam.

If these “conservatives” and Tea Party leaders are our saviors then Go help us.

made numerous campaign appearances with McCain,

Don't think that is an accurate statement.

...a former congressman who had tried to run to the right of the longtime senator.

J.D. didn't "try" to run to the right of anyone. J.D. already was to the right of McCain. He's a conservative. Arizonans just made a mistake.

Let’s see......Palin made Numerous appearances with McCain? oh you mean one rally and one fundraiser? that’s numerous?

Yes, she supported her running mate, I wish the J.D had won but he didn’t and McCain’s 21 million probably did it....what’s done is done....here’s hoping Palin makes him Secretary of Defense

Good grief, folks, she helped the man who brought her into the spotlight. I don’t hold it against her at all. (and no, I am not a Mccain fan)

I’m not all that certain that McCain wouldn’t have won anyway.

We all make mistakes and Palin made a big one in this case. McCain’s victory was a bummer. But most of her endorsements were good endorsements. I’ll let this go.

JD lost by 30 points.

This was the year of the Tea Party and anti-incumbency.

If JD couldn't win in this environment, then how is it Palin's fault?

I think McCain overplayed that initial show of support. Palin will make him pay eventually...

I can't imagine Rabadash posting an anti-Palin screed can you?

I wonder why in the world a Paul bot would do such a thing?

"Palin traveled to Arizona and made numerous campaign appearances with McCain,"

If an article has but one lie contained therein, then the whol article becomes a lie.

Palin supported him as political payback. She owed McCain big time and proved that she would reliably repay political favors.

What was so convenient about it, given that it has won her some grief from people on her side of the political aisle?

How is it a mistake? The political environment favored JD. Sarah's endorsement meant nothing when you boil it down, and even JD said that he understood why Sarah endorsed McCain. I bet JD will support McCain shortly.

She said she would campaign for McCain right after he lost the presidency, way before JD even entered the race? Why is this breaking news? I'll tell you why. JD was simply a horrible candidate who would have lost in the general anyway, and the anti-Palin brigade need a strawman to blame.
