I did that to remove the google toolbar. I still have a process that runs as a service called google_update.exe. I tried to make it go away. It keeps coming back. Any ideas?
That's better.
My sister bit a cheese eating moose while taking a shower and then her beeber was stuned permanently after that. When she logged on it was all better.
Thank you. :)
Yeah.. But a little more complicated.
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Delte
Look under ‘processes’ for googleupdate.exe (or similar program)
Click on it and hit ‘end process’.
Then go to:
Start -Run - Regedit -
Click ‘Edit’ on the top bar.
Click ‘find’
enter the name of the program (googleupdate.exe)
Click ‘Find next’.
When it finds it, hit the ‘delete’.
Hit F3 to continue searching and hit ‘delete’ everytime it’s found.
Keep hitting F3 until it says ‘finished searching’.
Close Regedit.
You’re done.
1. Instead of removal, a permission-based firewall such as ZoneAlarm can be used to temporarily block Googleupdate. If desired, the steps below can be used to completely remove Googleupdate from the system. Before attempting any manual removal, it’s a good idea to backup your system and make a separate backup of the system registry. Also note that removing Googleupdate will impact the parent applications ability to download updates.
2. To locate instances of googleupdate, search all local fixed drives for googleupd or googleupd* (depending on the search utility, the * wildcard may be required. Note that it is not required for the Windows search feature in Windows Explorer).
3. Make copies of any files found, noting their original location. Depending on the OS, some or all of the following may be found:
Google Update (Task Scheduler Object)
Googleupdate.exe (Application) (two or more locations)
GoogleUpdateHelper.msi (Windows Installer Package)
4. You should be able to delete the Google Update Task Scheduler Object and the GoogleUpdateHelper.msi with no problem. However, to delete googleupdate.exe, you’ll first need to launch Task Manager, locate the running Google Update process, and stop it. After doing that, you should be able to delete Googleupdate.exe. In other cases, GoogleUpdate may be installed as a service, in which case you will need to first stop the service before attempting to delete the file.
5. Next, open the Registry Editor and browse to the following subkey:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
6. In the right pane, locate the value named “Google Update”, right-click the name and select Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. When finished, close the Registry Editor.
7. After following the above steps, reboot the system.
You need an exorcist to remove it.
You do!
Why don't we take a little trip over to namby-pamby land and see if we can get you some SELF CONFIDENCE, you jackwagon!
>> I dare you to read more than the title of the thread.
I did! It sucked. I wish I had that minute of my life back.
***They [Google] usually find the popular sites first and go from there.***
In my experience, Google shows the ads first, together with the liberal opinion pieces, and whatever I’m looking for is somewhere down in the thousands. Try looking up how to make a toilet flush properly, and you’ll find both ads for plumbers and places that answer your question FOR A PRICE.
I ran search for google and deleted all but one file which would not go. I went to Control panel and removed the last file. Now I have less people spying on me.
That’s hugh and series!
What in the heck happened to the old saying, “if you do not have anything nice to say don’t say anything!!!!”?
This forum has gone so negative about anything and everything, it is hard to believe.
Google and Yahoo install their wretched tool bars that are pure junk and clog your system. First avoid Google’s Chrome browser. Try Firefox instead. Go to add/remove programs in the control panel and remove any Google programs ditto for Yahoo. Run a good malware remover like Super Anti-spyware. Run a good disk cleaner like CCleaner and defrag your hard drive. You will be surprised at the difference a little junk clean out can do.
Outstanding Post and agree 100%. CC Cleaner is fantastic. I would say add Advance System Care too. $17 a year but worth it. It will take any computer in your house and make it run like the first day you purchased. Been using both products for 3 years now and love it. Actually whenever a purchase a new computer I always run CC cleaner. It’s amazing how much it will improve your computer’s performance.
It was too short. At least, it was too short for a stream-of-consciousness rant. You were just getting started!
oy. you otta page lazmataz.
“Try Firefox instead.”
I tried it after reading recommendations on FR. On installation, Firefox put Google all over my registry. My firewall popped Firefox for various Google connection attempts. Overall, Firefox tried to connect to (something) quite often. Close Firefox and it stopped.
Firefox is also one of the least secure browsers available (currently).
I’d stay far away from Firefox if you’re worried about security and privacy.
Try Opera.
If you do have a Google account, disable history.
“What’s “dumb@ss” about that?”
Un**ckingbelievable.
Where’s the “here’s your sign” guy?
