Today co-anchor Matt Lauer traveled to New Orleans, on Friday, to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and interviewed the likes of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, former FEMA Director Mike Brown, current Democratic Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, but saved any sort of direct shots at George W. Bush for his interview with Laura Bush.

I don’t know why the Bushes expose themselves to such cretins.
so what was her response?
Matt? Matt Lauer? Tell us, Matt, is it painful to be with Laura Bush, a woman with more cajones than you in your wildest dreams?
Laura has been one of the finest first ladies we have ever had and the scum continue to insult here every chance they get.. dispicable.
Laura has proven herself to be a despicable person due to her post-administration writings and comments, and a lousy first lady!
Lauer's a little bit retarded in his noggin.
It is Bush's fault that the people stayed instead of heeding warnings.
It is Bush's fault for not using the buses as was the plan.
It is Bush's fault that these people were hungry and were stealing TV's.
It is Bush's fault that the cops turned into looters of clothes cameras, TV's etc, etc as they were hungry.
It is Bush's fault that more money hasn't NEVER been poured into this place.
It's Bush's fault that in the Hurricane/Tornado alley's those people get off their behinds and help EACH OTHER EVERYTIME A DISASTER HAPPENS.
It is Bush's fault that this is a chocolate city.
It is Bush's fault that the Mayor and Governor were DEMOCRATIC incompetents.
Yep, this was all Bush's fault Matt, nice haircut a-hole...........
They savaged Bush and now they have the GREAT ONE called 0bama. I hope Laura gets over her liberalism. Take some lessons from Liz Cheney.

He forgot to move these city ones to higher ground before he ran away to Houston.
Matt, I don’t know to ask you this in any other way, so I’ll just come right and ask: “Is it painful for you to look in the mirror?”
are you mentally ill ?
MATT LAUER: There’s no easy way to ask this question, I’m just gonna ask it. Is it ever painful for you to come back to this region, because in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it seems so much of the blame for what happened or didn’t happen here was laid at the feet of your husband?
LAURA BUSH: No, not really. I mean I feel very close to the people on the Gulf Coast and always have. And, and I know what the circumstances were. And of course the President takes the blame in any situation, as we can see now with the new president. But I also knew what George really thought and how he felt about the, the Gulf Coast. We gave unprecedented support. The United States Congress passed large bills. I think $180 billion that George signed and has come to the Gulf Coast. And what we’ve seen really is so inspirational. The people here, the school people are the ones that I’ve been with the most. And they came back, when they were in FEMA trailers or living with relatives and did everything they could to rebuild their schools so kids could come back.
LAUER: I know the people of the region are thankful for the work you and your foundation are doing here. Mrs. Bush thanks for joining us this morning. I appreciate it.
My response would have been “why are you asking such a stupid question...”
Your comment is more suited for Michelle Obama if the truth were to be told.
Please, as you are the first person I’ve ever known to be so critical of the former First Lady, do elaborate
Read her response is post 13 she sticks it right back to him with class and truth.
But she is way too classy for that.
Matt, is it painful knowing you’re a D-bag?
Probably more people saw his comments here on FR than watched his stupid show on TV.
I’d love to stomp Lauer into the nearest mudhole.....=.=
Actually she was a good first lady. She kept her opinions to herself for 8 years. She wasn’t out there contradicting the President. She acted like a lady and no matter what she has said since then, she always acted like a lady and a proper first lady should.
Well said...
No one takes Matt Lauer seriously.
Laura Bush is a First Lady to be proud of.
The public is now well aware of the MSM bias for democrats before their own country.
No; however it may be you who is delusional!
Read and understand her comments made within the last few months. She is an unabashed LIBERAL!
Her husband, the record proves, is (like his father) an unabashed MODERATE which means he stood for nothing.
You may not be mentally deficient, but apparently you might be a borderline illiterate.
But then, unable to contain herself, began in the past few months to shoot her mouth off and to join Obama’s wookie on the national platform.
EXACTLY!
Not totally unheard of to join a member of the opposition to promote a public service message or something. I don’t agree with her but I still say she carries herself like a lady.
I’ve read her book. She’s no liberal. She may be a little wishy washy or an ‘elitist’ Republican, but she is not a liberal.
Funny how Republicans and Democrats view their rights so differently.
The Rats looked at the First Amendment and realized it gave them an opportunity to take over the press and brainwash the people with a steady diet of leftist propaganda, and therefore, perhaps, someday ease the establishment of communist government in America. So they took over nearly all the news outlets: the papers, the networks, and nearly all the jobs in journalism that America had to offer.
Republicans, on the other hand, looked at the Second Amendment and understood it gave them the means to defeat any attempt to establish tyranny in America. So they proudly served in the military and learned the art of war, and bought all the guns and practiced their marksmanship constantly.
Is it painful, Matt, to realize your side chose poorly?
Laura’s response was classic class. She and her husband where always miles above the crass hate of their critics.
Bush saved no less than 9,000 lives [most of them black] by taking swift large federal action.
The projections of a death toll for such a catastrophe all suggested that no less than 10,000 people would die.
On the other hand, Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco were happy to see black people die in New Orleans in an effort to score political points against a President whom they hated.
Until conservatives are willing to defend their own, these silly Matt Lauer’s will dominate our public sphere. The Bush’s should have never been abandoned.
Yes indeed, it is all Bush’s fault!
Just like it is America’s fault Saddam gassed his own people and starved so many, those things only happened because America had sanction in place.
Every issue, no matter where it originates is Bush’s or America’s fault in the liberal fantasy utopia they live in! NO RESPONSIBLITY FOR THE GUILTY LEFT!
Lost my coffee all over my screen on that one.
Haha. Great answer from Mrs. Bush!!
Laura is a bigger ‘man’ than Lauer will ever be.
Answer: Not at all. You don’t see a thing.
Not to worry, they only highlighted the contrast between then and now. Wonder if they will start selling T-shirts with Laura asking, “Do you miss me yet?”...

At a State Department ceremony this week, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warmly acknowledged the family members of Mark Dybul, whom she was swearing in as the nation's new global AIDS coordinator.
As first lady Laura Bush looked on, Rice singled out his partner, Jason Claire, and Claire's mother. Rice referred to her as Dybul's mother-in-law.
I read her book. There was nothing despicable in it. It increased my admiration for her and her husband which was already high.
As for her actions, you cannot name one thing she’s done that’s been objectionable.
Dolt!
While I vigorously disagree with Laura Bush on the matters of abortion and sodomite “marriage”, she at least exhibits a sense of “geometry and taste” and does so with class and poise.
As the president’s wife, she kept her opinions to herself and supported her husband through it all.
Contrast her with Hillary and Michele.
Now THEY are despicable grom the get go and lousy first ladies to boot.
Big mouthed, foul tempered, glowering, hateful shrews.
I don’t recall her making any statements about gay marriage. But don’t let facts get in the way of your apparent desire to trash Laura.
She is far too nice a person to trash anyone because of their sexual orientation or anything else.
You prove your ignorance. The appearance of which you speak was arranged for Laura to be a speaker long ago, maybe months.
Michelle inserted herself into the event to try to regain popularity she lost during her indulgence in Spain.
You are an uninformed idiot.
Laura is more moderate on this issue. She does not believe that the definition of man and woman in matrimony should be changed but also does not think that gay relationships is anyones business.
Exactly, well said.
I guess it has been a slow news summer, no hurricanes, and the BP blow out didn't produce any “newsworthy” stories. The economy and unemployment are milestones around BHOI and dimocrat necks. So what is the boot licking MSM to do?
That's it! Lets go back and revisit Hurricane Katrina and see what we can still blame Bush for!
Laura Bush is the epitome of a true “lady”! Surely, you were describing the current first lady, weren’t you?
