Catastrophic Failure Of Leadership: US Birthrate Falls To Lowest Level In 100 Years
Start Thinking Right ^ | August 30, 2010 | Michael Eden

Have you heard? America's birth rate is lower than at any time in the last last 100 years.

There seems to be something profoundly wrong with Obama's central message of hope and change. There is something profoundly wrong with Obama's "fundamental transformation" of America.

22/08/2010 Recession effect? US birth rate lowest in 100 yrs

Milkwujee [sic]: The US birth rate has dropped for the second year in a row, and experts think the wrenching recession led many people to put off having children. The 2009 birth rate also set a record: lowest in a century. Births fell 2.7 per cent last year even as the population grew, numbers released Friday by the National Center for Health Statistics show.

"It's a good-sized decline for one year. Every month is showing a decline from the year before," said Stephanie Ventura, the demographer who oversaw the report. The birth rate, which takes into account changes in the population, fell to 13.5 births for every 1,000 people last year. That's down from 14.3 in 2007 and way down from 30 in 1909, when it was common for people to have big families. "It doesn't matter how you look at it -- fertility has declined," Ventura said.

The situation is a striking turnabout from 2007, when more babies were born in the United States than any other year in the nation's history. The recession began that fall, dragging stocks, jobs and births down. "When the economy is bad and people are uncomfortable about their financial future, they tend to postpone having children. We saw that in the Great Depression the 1930s and we're seeing that in the Great Recession today," said Andrew Cherlin, a sociology professor at Johns Hopkins University. "It could take a few years to turn this around," he added, noting that the birth rate stayed low throughout the 1930s.

As the report shows, it's actually the lowest in a lot more than a hundred years. But we'll go with the lamestream media's headline. The REAL news here is that - while the low birthrate is being blamed on the recession - the birthrate is actually lower than it was during the Great Depression years (it was 21.3 births per 100 Americans in 1930, the year AFTER the Depression began).

The birth rate is shockingly down for not one but two years in a row. Which is contrasted with 2007 ("Miss me yet?"), when more babies were born to Americans than at any time in our history. The Democrats under Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would soon screw that up, however.

And now, Obama has not only crushed "hope" in America, but love as well.

Gotta ask: how's that "Marxist as Moscow" "hopey changey" thing working out for ya here in "God damn America"?

The media is depicting this frightening news that American can't replenish it's population and is now going the way of the Dodo bird to the impact of the recession. It's the economy, stupid. There's only one problem with that: it wasn't this bad in the GREAT DEPRESSION.

Now, I remember when Obama was campaigning for office and when he was trying to ram his stimulus - that he said would keep employment under 8% - through a Democrat-owned Congress. Those were the days when Obama

... turned fearmongering into an art form. He has repeatedly raised the specter of another Great Depression. First, he did so to win votes in the November election. He has done so again recently to sway congressional votes for his stimulus package.

In his remarks, every gloomy statistic on the economy becomes a harbinger of doom. As he tells it, today's economy is the worst since the Great Depression. Without his Recovery and Reinvestment Act, he says, the economy will fall back into that abyss and may never recover.

Obama got his presidency. He got his massive stimulus boondoggle. But he poisoned the well of American confidence in doing so.

For all his many failings - such as keeping the Great Depression going for seven years longer with his terrible economic policies - FDR was a man of incredible confidence who gave his people optimism in the future. "Things are bad for us now," he essentially said, "But we'll lick this depression. You just wait!" And most Americans, perhaps gullibly given his awful policies, believed him.

Ultimately, FDR's own Treasury Secretary and close personal friend Henry Morganthau, acknowledged the utter failure of FDR's economic policies:

“We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong... somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises... I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started... And an enormous debt to boot!” - Henry Morganthau, FDR's Treasury Secretary, May 1939
But at least the people had confidence -however misplaced - in FDR's leadership.

Unlike Obama, whom they have no confidence in at all.

I have said this many times, and said it quite forcefully hear only a couple of months after Obama assumed office:

At this point, Obama is demonstrating that he cannot lead. And in a way it’s not his fault; there was never anything in his life experience that indicated he could lead. Community organizer? Obscure Illinois State Representative [who used thug tactics to come from nowhere to claim the seat]? One-term Senator (who promised he’d serve his first six-year term but then ran for President after 158 days???)??? [....]

He is a total failure. We don’t have a leader, we just have a guy who campaigns for four years. The country will begin to increasingly drift until we get a real president.

And boy oh boy was I ever right.

Here's a short list of news reports I came up with that revealed how America was in the grip of disaster while Obama was on vacation gripping a golf club:

Did you notice how many of those new bad news releases reveal terrible numbers that go back decades? And that things were NEVER this bad when Bush was president?

And here's the headline that Obama finally comes back from the lap of luxury after his sixth vacation of the year to see:

Record number in government anti-poverty programs
And the story there:
WASHINGTON — Government anti-poverty programs that have grown to meet the needs of recession victims now serve a record one in six Americans and are continuing to expand.
One major problem facing the country is that millions of Americans are glad that Obama is giving them welfare, versus the Americans who would rather have a president who leads the nation as a whole out of poverty and back to prosperity.

It's not just Obama's bad economy that is causing Americans to stop having babies and start fading away as a nation; it's not even his terrible policies that are sustaining that bad economy; it's his total failure of leadership that is creating this unparalleled lack of confidence in America's future.

Just why is a birth rate that is lower even than the Great Depression years due to a recession?

And how is the fact that we went from having the most births in American history in 2007 to the worst birth rate ever "Bush's fault"?

Don’t tell the Democrats or they’ll mandate baby-making or something. Or they will mandate a bailout for the debt-loads of un-wed mothers to stimulate fertility or something. All of their policy-solutions are so uniformly god-awful that I just don’t want them to know about any crisis that they don’t already know about and are already poised to screw up even more than it’s already screwed.

America's same sex marriage rate is at it's highest level ever.

Certainly there is no connection....

Low birth rate, PLUS:

New data shows that 40 percent of all children and 72 percent of black children are born outside marriage

If poor single mothers married the fathers of their children, nearly two-thirds could escape poverty immediately.

Government spends $300 billion annually to assist low-income single parents.

Now, the real problem is what price do children caught in a single mom household pay. If she does not have an older father figure to step in and fill the void of the missing father, how does it affect the child’s future. There are a lot of grandparents now raising their grandchildren.

Recently I caught a call-in discussion on NPR where people called in to share their desires and experiences in having child-free marriages. Mostly folks who felt they were doing there part to minimize a so-called population explosion. One lady said she and her husband went out on the town every year on the anniversary of his vascectomy, to spend the money they were saving on school supplies, children's clothes etc.

What these self-absorbed hedonists fail to realize is that they are actually insuring the continuance an ever-diminishing labor pool that is going to end up footing the bill for supporting the current generation of boomers entering - and expanding - the seasoned citizens' rolls. I don't see how anyone can look to the future of this country and anticipate a sudden reversal of fortune of what so obviously awaits us...

So. reading these two comments, we’re not going to have liberals bail us out of the lowest birth rate disaster by demanding an end to gay marriage?

It’s too bad that liberals and progressives have a 100% track record of solving problems by making the problems they solve worse.

The deepening recession, along with general discontent is Obama’s fault. The low birth rate, not entirely so. The planet is heading first to replacement level, then probably to declining population as the world adopts higher living standards.

Obama has accelerated the trend here, and since there is no more private economy expansion; therefore immigration, the source of our population growth, is declining. Imigration works two ways: direct population increase followed by high birthrates for a couple of generations. I think when we get over Obama, we’ll go back to an expanding US population by imigration.

Bu... bu... But Murphy Brown was right! And Dan Quayle spelled potato with a dated-but-valid ‘e’!!! Clearly he must therefore be stupid, and clearly that means single parents pumping out babies must be okay!?!?

I mean, what kind of racists ARE you people?

It’s actually hilarious, apart from the fact that liberals are about 98% to their goal of “Cloward-and-Pivenizing” America into implosion so they can finally have their beloved Marxism.

First liberals gave us Social Security - the ultimate ponzi scheme in which you needed more and more suckers to be born to spread out the time to complete collapse.

And THEN they murdered the “sucker pool” with abortion and frightened other would-be-parents away from giving birth with environmentalist-whackjob predictions of famine due to a high birth rate.

And FINALLY they give us the worst president in history to complete the America-as-Dodo bird picture.

Just in time for that Ponzi-scheme bill to start truly coming due.

The deepening recession, along with general discontent is Obama’s fault. The low birth rate, not entirely so

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It’s that “not entirely” part that I’m focusing on.

Again, the mainstream narrative is that the century-low birth rate is due to the bad economy. But that 100-year figure predates the WORST economy we’ve ever had. Which means that there must be something else besides a bad economy.

And, conservative and Republican that I am, I see Obama’s total failure to provide even the littlest bit of confidence that things will get better.

I’ll leave it to the sociologists to argue how it really isn’t Obama’s fault at all, and that he’s really the greatest president we’ve ever had, and belongs on Mount Rushmore, and focus on the obvious refutation of the lamestring media’s presentation.

I’m not trying to insinuate that you’re one of those idiot leftwing sociology types, but there does come a point when it’s better not to help Obama out of the hole he’s digging for himself.

I, for one, dislike children.

So does my wife - BTW I'm not an lesbian woman, I'm a man.

We both had very awful childhoods and we both know - positively - that the world is a better place because we did not have children.

More power to all of you with your families - congratulations to you all!

Some of us were never meant to be parents.

Well, there are creatures called “dogs” that sound perfect for you.

You can treat them just like children until they do something wrong. Then you can put them out in the back yard without Child Services coming down on you.

I remember a cartoon someone sent me at work. It was a pair of chickens, and the rooster was saying, “See, honey, they don’t taste that bad, and it sure beats sending them to college...”

These Young females are coming here and having multiple children and they’re Less then a Year apart.

GO to a major metropolitain hospital and you’ll see what I mean. Then their are the Parasites who live off the WIC Program who feel its their right to sponge off of the Tax Payer.

We are in so much trouble.

8% of ALL children born in the United States are born to illegal immigrants.

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/08/11/illegal-immigrants-bear-8-children-born-us

Then we find this:

“Costs on average for every illegal alien headed household about $19,600 more if they consume the city services than they pay in taxes, so the rest of the taxpayers have to part costs. Schools become overcrowded, English as second language programs push out other programs.”

http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDocument&orgId=574&topicId=100046857&docId=l:1207575906&start=2

And then we realize that illegal immigrants are recognized to be burdens to their OWN country.

http://startthinkingright.wordpress.com/2010/06/03/mexico-says-their-citizens-returning-home-are-a-burden-how-were-they-not-a-burden-to-america/

Our social service agencies are swamped with illegal immigrants obtaining benefits. When I worked for Orange County in R.O.P., we were not allowed to ascertain citizenship. And the number of Hispanics taking advantage of the program was simply stunning.

What we’re seeing is a massive net drain of US resources.

St. Paul put it this way:

“If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” - 1 Tim 5:8

So why are we robbing our own people to provide for those who are not citizens of this country, and calling that “moral”?

Re your post 13. I concur with the first statement. But my wife does love children (she was a school teacher). Luckily, she was in her late 30s when we met and was agreeable to my demand that there would be no children.

I, too, had an awful childhood, my wife less so but it wasn’t great, either.

I really don’t care if people just have all the babies they want. No skin off ... I wish, though, that they would understand what you wrote, not all of us were meant to be parents for one reason or the other. And it would be appreciated if they would lay off the criticism of those of us who choose not to reproduce.

I planned my life well and today I’m relatively well off, no financial worries, that’s for sure. And I have no regrets about my life decisions.
