CARACAS, VENEZUELA (BNO NEWS) A Venezuelan farmer died on Monday after 8 hunger strikes and six years of protest against President Hugo Chavez and his governments land policies, Globovision Television reported on Tuesday.
Franklin Brito, 49, died at the Military Hospital in Caracas, Venezuela, where he had been secluded against his will for four months. Ten days ago, Britos body began to collapse and on late Monday he passed away.
Brito began his fight against the Chavez administration six years ago. During this period he endured eight hunger strikes, a mutilated finger and being victim of an irregular captivity. His relatives have not been allowed to see the body and the autopsy will be performed in the presence of Britos doctor.
The former farmer began his fight after his farm was expropriated as part of the governments policy of redistributing land to the poor. The Venezuelan government had denied seizing Britos land and blamed the opposition of creating the controversy.
Relatives of the hunger striker released a statement where they claimed that President Chavez ignored Britos requests, as well as the ones from the family and international agencies, for allowing him to receive medical attention of his preference. Instead, he was confined to the military hospital surrounded by inhuman conditions.
Last year, an estimated 5,000 square kilometers of farmland that was previously in private hands was seized and redistributed.
looking for a few freepers to join my spoof Hugo chavez facebook page. look up chavezhugo99 at gmail. If you have any ideas let me know.
Hunger strikes only work with civilized government ( e.g., Gandhi in protest against the British ).
It won’t work against dictatorial regimes like the one we have in Venezuel, North Korea, Cuba, Iran , etc.
They could care less if you die ( probably save them the bullet or the executioner’s salary ).
Chavez is a monster.
"...They could care less if you die ( probably save them the bullet or the executioners salary )..."
Those brutal regimes actually couldn't care less about the regular man.
One thing I will never understand, is why people here support Chavez. He’s the type that would throw these hippies into jail and then have them shot in a small field for even attempting to protest.
Many escapees here...some cant break loose. Chavez is a SA obama and people that voted for either deserve what happens to them!
Btt
Should have starved the fat El Puerco Hugo himself. Now there’s one pig that can survive long on his own reserves.
“Progressivism” claims another victim.
Coming soon to a theatre (city) near you.........
You got that right. Gandhi told Churchill that the British
should use the same passive resistance methods as he used
against the Nazis. Churchill said “you were dealing with
gentlemen, we are dealing with monsters.”
Is it not truly amazing how the logic of "could care less" and "couldn't care less" escapes the attention of those who employ the former phrase?
