Thank you Lord for creating North Carolina to buffer Virginia Beach from hurricanes!

I think this is my first LIVE thread. Almost sends a chill up my leg.
I am in Va Beach (about 10 miles inland). Office in Norfolk, where I have been requested to try and be in the morning. We’ll see.
Anyhow, this thread is for all in the path to document observations, state of being (for family and friends) and to guess how many rounds of Gold Obama will play. I believe the amount of destruction is directly linked to the number of Obama’s golf games!

Latest tracking indicates a small shift to the west which would bring it close to the outer Cape and Nantucket.

If it hits Martha’s Vineyard, you can bet Obama will visit there much quicker than he visited the Gulf.

Battening down the hatches here in Connecticut. Lawn furniture going into the garage, all loose stuff put away.
We don’t get hurricanes often, thank God, but when we do, they tend to be bad as they skim the coast and hit us directly.

I’m not understanding why this is a big news story.
A storm that will remain out to sea has been the lead story on Drudge all morning.
Maybe this is the media just hoping for another Katrina.

A friend of ours just closed on a house near Nags Head, NC at the beginning of August.

All up the East Coast there might be 50mph+ winds, knocking over trees into power lines.
Storm surges could be 10ft above normal.
Look up Isabel 2003 for comparable track and damage.

A Cat 4 hurricane is approaching the East coast, with no gaurantee it won’t come ashore, and your wondering why it is a big news story??? You don’t track storms much do you?DS!

You stopped me from worrying about my friend in Virginia Beach! Thanks! I’m still going to call her.
To: Rational Thought
If Earl follows the projections as currently issued it may not be that bad of a storm. But it will do damage.

LOL!
First time I’ve ever been criticized because of a storm.
To: Rational Thought
It was a 'warning'..not criticism.
Complacency vs panic. One is as bad as the other, LOL.

I am not familiar with the DC area. How bad would a storm surge be in that general area?

Squalls out on the Gulfstream,
Big storms coming soon.
I passed out in my hammock,
God, I slept way past noon.
Stood up and tried to focus,
I hoped I wouldn't have to look far.
I knew I could use a Bloody Mary,
So I stumbled next door to the bar.
And now I must confess,
I could use some rest.
I can't run at this pace very long.
Yes, it's quite insane,
I think it hurts my brain.
But it cleans me out and then I can go on.
