It was the shot heard around the state for the grassroots tea party movement.
Its arch-nemesis The Tea Party would not be allowed on the November ballot, after a decision by the Michigan Supreme Court. That set off a series of victorious comments by those who consider themselves part of the "real" tea party.
The Michigan Supreme Court voted 5-2 not to hear The Tea Party's appeal of a Court of Appeals decision to bar them from the November ballot. Newly appointed Alton Thomas Davis voted to not hear the case. Supreme Court Justices Marilyn Kelly and Diane M. Hathaway would have allowed a hearing on it.
The court's decision was based on something as technical as the word "the" being left off a petition ballot that just said "Tea Party" when other official papers called it "The Tea Party."
But grassroots tea party members knew this was not technical matter.
A Detroit Free Press article chronicled many of the discoveries other media had made, as well as its owns findings that tied The Tea Party to the Democrats...

MI ping about the fake tea party
This goes well beyond dirty campaign tricks. Somebody needs to go to prison.
Good. Most of the actual “Tea Party Parties” are nothing but front groups started by Dimocrats to try to split conservative votes. Fake parties don’t belong on real ballots.
Yep. And it shows just how desperate they are. Losing Michigan would be devastating for liberals.
Great news! The fake “tea party” set up by democrats to take votes away from the GOP is smacked down!
Now to be referred to, (so as to differentiate from the real Tea Party) as ‘The tee’d off party’, heheh.
In one sense good: keeping them off the ballot will keep them from stealing unearned publicity/fame/reputation.
in one sense bad: it illustrates how terribly stacked against “third parties” the system is.
In this case they had people as candidates who wouldn’t be old enough to hold office, forged signatures, 1 candidate lives in Arizona and wasn’t even aware he was running.
One of the main players in this was the former head of ACORN in Oakland county (Where they had some 30,000 fraudulent voter registrations in 08) and a former campaign manager for the democrat secretary of state candidate Jocelyn Benson.
Well, what's wrong with that? The Republicans did that with their presidential candidate in 2008.
LOL good point.
You win the internet!
CLEAN UP ON AISLE 6 ....
Titus, you owe me a new keyboard and monitor, that was hilarious.
Mike McGuinness, the recently resigned chairman of the Oakland County Democratic Party, who had denied any role in the Tea Party controversy, recruited his former stepmother to run for state representative.
Jason Bauer, 30, of Waterford, former operations director for the Oakland Democrats and McGuinness’ roommate, notarized petitions for at least four affidavits to run for office for people who now — directly or through a relative — say they didn’t sign the affidavits. Overall, he notarized 12 of 23 Tea Party candidate affidavits.
State Senate candidate Frantt Whitehill of Midland, who insists he’s a real tea partyer, is a Democratic donor who ran for precinct delegate as a Democrat in August.
Three Tea Party candidates recently gave money to Democrats.
There is NO tea party, there are tea party groups, a large grass roots movement that attend tea parties, but no tea party per se. I am glad they stopped this BS from getting on the ballot.
Apparently democrats will have to fall back on the tried and true methods of voter fraud.
Good! It’s not a political party ... it’s a movement. Doesn’t belong on a ballot.
