Delaware GOP “cautiously confident” that Castle will win

I’m surprised. Not only because it’s insane to think he’s still the favorite — closed primary, polls showing O’Donnell surging, nationally prominent conservatives in full-court press on her behalf — but because it’s poor messaging. If Castle’s chances for victory hinge on centrist Republicans turning out en masse, wouldn’t the GOP want to scare the hell out of those people with predictions of a nailbiter in order to make sure they know their vote’s important? Mystifying.

"Republican National Committeewoman Priscilla Rakestraw, who has been working the phones on Castle’s behalf, and who spoke to 300 potential voters at the Academy of Life-Long Learning Thursday, said she believed O’Donnell’s momentum has sputtered over the past few days due to the heightened scrutiny surrounding her record.

“The phones this afternoon and tonight, were totally different. People were much more willing to talk and much more forthcoming. Democrats were even asking how they could help, and I told them to call their Republican friends,” Rakestraw said late Monday, predicting an 8-point victory for Castle. “The mood seems different.”…

[GOP operative Don Mell] projected that if turnout draws 30 percent of the state’s 180,000 registered Republicans, the former two-term governor and nine-term congressman would win by 8 to 12 percentage points. If turnout just breaks 20 percent, he believes Castle’s margin will shrink to 4 to 6 points, but said he would survive."

“Republican National Committeewoman Priscilla Rakestraw”

I thought John Cornyln promised after the Crist matter to stay out of the primaries. Yet he’s sending his hachetlady out.

Win, lose or draw. The Tea Party ain’t going anywhere.

Cornlyn and McConnell had better get used to future primary fights because they are a coming!!!!!!!!

8 - 12 points, Wow. I would definetly be disappointed in that. If they have castle winning by that much the polls in the last couple of days have been WWWWAAAAYYY off.

The Delaware Republican Party is “catiously optimistic” that they’re going to win in the Delaware Republican primary.

Fail.

If this is what the GOP is all about then Rush is right they will become the third party with 10% of the vote in the future.

whatever it is, it is....Christine's supporters have nearly done the impossible and I am not convinced that she can't win today.....I'm leaning to thinking she is winning and will win...

Nov. will be a different story but we'll climb that mountain when we get there...

Don’t forget the halfhearted attempts at election fraud to help Murkowski, and the fact that Murkowski immediately contacted Castle with warnings and advice to deal with “those people”.

Dirty peasants! They stormed my Bastille!

The RNC committee woman is why I won’t vote for an establishment republican. She could sit on the side lines with her mouth shut until the election is decided.

**********************

Many here have said the GOP is the new and emerging Whig party. More likely is that in the coming years - assuming we still have elections and have not dissolved as did the former Soviet Union - a withered and abandoned GOP consisting of cadre, staffers and their families will merge with the declining Democrats. Both parties as institutions are committed to post WWII liberalism, with elitism, globalism, the welfare state, and expanded government as goals. Both parties are opposed to individual liberty and limited government.

The merged parties’ base will consist of a few wealthy elites, the permanent welfare class, union members and government employees. People who produce useful goods and services, who value liberty, or both will belong to a new and somewhat decentralized Restoration party. It will not emerge from the old third parties, but probably will arise from the Tea Party movement.
