The Tenth Inning by Ken Burns

Last night I DVR'd PBS's "The Tenth Inning (Part 1)" by Ken Burns. This morning I sat down to watch it. When one of the country's most despicable people, Keith Olbermann, came on at the beginning, I almost shut it off and didn't watch it, but it turned out he only had a tiny role. I'm glad I stayed with it. If you are a baseball fan, this special is for you. Part 2 will be aired tonight. If you missed Part 1, watch for reruns.

I had the same reaction - Olberman. But, all-in-all, most of the Flaming Liberal commentators kept with the script - it’s about Baseball...

I was surfing and ran across it but the first face I saw was Olbermann and I immediately moved on....Shoot! I’ll try to remember it tonight.

On the other hand, there WAS one guy who maligned my Yankees. He said that EVERYONE should hate them - because they are WINNERS. If that isn’t the most UN-American attitude that one could have. Sure, you can hate the Yankees if you are from Boston, and a Red Sox fan. But, he was advocating that you should hate them because they are successful. Should the WORLD hate America because WE WALKED ON THE MOON ????

Few years ago I attended a Yankees’ game at the “old” Stadium... before the MLB game there was the Old Timer’s game... that turd Olbermann was announcing the players from an on-field table near the home team warm-up batter’s circle... I kept hoping Donnie Baseball (or some other lefty hitter) would have hit a foul line shot off turd Olbermann’s paste-eating kisser, but no such luck.

agreed. The rest of the world always seems to go with the lowest form of American initiative - Rap, Baggy pants, Ebonic communication. The list goes on...

You sure? Michael Kay and John Sterling usually share that honor each year.

Burns is an unabashed Red Sox fan and Yankee hater, so it shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s also not surprising that he completely ignored the Yanks winning 114 regular season games in ‘98 (the most in MLB history up to that point) before going on to win their 3rd WS title in 4 years.

The ‘96 season was the sole focus, with Torre’s career being the main storyline.

This was 3+ years ago (2007 maybe). I’m sure it was that loser Olbermann. Maybe he was just doing the introductions (not play-by-play and color), but he was on the field at a table during the actual game.

I work nights and recorded it on my DVD recorder; will do same tonight. Plan to watch with a friend this weekend. I knew already that Mike Barnicle was to be in it and thought I’d read that Olby was to be as well, though I guess in a baseball capacity rather than politics. Last night I checked to make sure it recorded OK, FF-ed a bit, and there he was.

Should be worth watching though and I can FF over him.

btw here’s a bit I recorded at a college radio station in
95 as I read “Green Fields of the Mind” by Bart Giamatti
(aka “It breaks your heart”). The music backing is from
the audio cass. copy I had (later got rid of, I think)
of the soundtrack from the original Baseball.
