Bob Shrum, known for his incredible ability to fail even across the Atlantic Ocean and his propensity for writing concession speeches, is again the Great Prognosticator.
Here's his latest divorced from reality column at TheWeek.com:
Democrats will hold the House and Senate
Obviously, Shrum's been abusing his medical marijuana prescription a little more than usual. I'll give him credit that he starts the piece out with this:
Maybe Im wrong.
After being an adviser for eight failed campaigns (McGovern to Kerry), he uses the word "maybe"?
In fact, maybe Im really, really wrong, which is the reaction I hear when I dare even to broach this notion to commentators and political strategists in both parties. So let me state it plainly: I now think the Democrats will hold the Congressyes, the House as well as the Senateand turn back high-profile Republican challengers in California and elsewhere.
And what does he think is the Democrats' secret weapon?
The GOP strategy of no worked to slow the recovery, stoke fears about fictions like death panels in the health-reform bill, and persuade voters to strike out in frustration against Democrats. The trend peaked in August, a month Democrats probably wish they could abolish given the dog days they suffered then, in 2009 as well as 2010.
Peaked in August? That's why Obama's out giving "Glory Day" speeches.
But with the onset of autumn, there are signs that the Republican tide is receding. Karl Rove would understandthe same dynamic was the key to George W. Bushs narrow re-election in 2004, when the GOP base showed up to vote in numbers that defied the polling models. This time, its the Democratic base thats stirring

Then its almost a certainty that the GOP will control at least one chamber of Congress.
Bob Schrum couldn’t find his butt with both hands.
Although, he and his candidates are all superb losers.
Go full-throttle, Bob. Predict that EVERY race in America will go to the Democrats.
Take a freakin' chance, you moron.
While it does seem like we have a good chance of at least taking the House, I still do not see any real fundamental change in the American public’s view of our social welfare state that would lead me to be super confident about November.
I do worry we are underestimating the opposition, and overestimating the American public.
I still suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed Tea Party folks who badly misjudged the electability of candidates like O’Donnell. In this environment, nominees like Angle and Rand may win, but I really don’t think Americans have given up on the social welfare state by a long shot. That may happen one day, but it hasn’t happened yet.
Shrum is NEVER accurate. His record (0-8) Proves It.
Shrum’s “0 - 8” record refers to campaigns for President. His record for crafting winning non-Presidential campaigns is what keeps him working. Next month is not a Presidential election.
I don’t think he’s right. In fact, I think he’s very, very wrong . . . this time.
