Not Your Mother’s Girl Scouts
Accuracy in Academia ^ | October 19, 2010 | Malcolm A. Kline

Americans may still see the Girl Scouts of America (GSA) as an apolitical group but the group’s leader has acknowledged a marked change in the GSA. “We’re not your mother’s Girl Scout troup,” GSA executive director Marty Evans has said.

“In 1972, they dropped loyalty to their country from their oath in favor of ‘I will do my best to be honest and fair,’” J. C. Willke writes in the October 2010 issue of the Life Issues Connector newsletter. “In 1975 the first Catholic Archdiocese cut off all support for the Girl Scouts because of their sex-ed program.”

“During 1993, the Girl Scouts made ‘God’ optional in the Girl Scout promise.”

“On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help all people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law,” the GSA manual still reads but goes on to advise, “When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word God with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.”

“They still sell cookies, but here are some new badges to earn: ‘domestic violence awareness, stress management, girl power and decisions for your life’ (teen pregnancy, etc.),” Willke states. “Let’s note a few examples of these changes:

* “In Pennsylvania, Junior Girl Scouts (age-12) can attend a workshop on puberty designed by Planned Parenthood to earn their ‘becoming a teen’ badge.

* “In Connecticut, Girl Scouts honored a Planned Parenthood official for promoting ‘healthy practices’ in local troops.

* “In Amarillo, TX, Girl Scouts have sponsored Planned Parenthood sex-ed seminars for 4th through 8th graders.”

I don’t know much of anything about campfire girls. I thought they were just the younger version of girl scouts, don’t really know.

I will never have children. It’s bad enough knowing that most children will suffer horribly and have no hope. To then have to worry about your own is unbearable.

It's very clear that the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts have gone in two totally opposite directions. I won't even buy Girl Scout cookies anymore and I LOVE Girl Scout cookies.

The women's movement stole the girl scouts.. and they are trying to clone themselves..

i also no longer buy girl scout cookies.. I will not give one penny to them

My other granddaughters went to a church based kids program ..seperated them by sex and age.. and had Christian moms and dads as the leaders..

I know that catholics have CYO for the older kids..may be time to adapt some of the kids programs that have been developed to that church and keep the girls safe..

The girl scouts is a recruiting program for liberated females ...

Excellent post, I agree completely. It is imperative that Christian parents protect their children.

I was a wolf, bear, webelo leader, then I turned it over to my husband when they went to the troop.

I was up until June, the Registrar at the local Boy Scout Council. The best one they ever had. I was told that too.

I opened my daughter’s “Agents of Change” Girl Scouts manual to a photograph and bio of none other than Dolores Huerta. The GS are abandoning entirely the badge programming so that even our Conservative Christian leader will have no other programming to offer her scouts.

I don't intend my comment to be disrespectful or mean in any way - but yes, if that is your principle thought when considering whether or not to have them, DO NOT HAVE THEM.

"most children will suffer horribly and have no hope"? In the most pessimistic sense, that may be true for children outside of your influence - but if you believe that about children that are WITHIN your sphere of influence, you are not doing enough to provide that hope.

I think it is 100% impossible to protect your own children. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

I remember the story of a soldier who went on tour in Iraq. He came back to discover that his 3 year old daughter was brutally murdered by relatives who seemed trustworthy to him. Was it his fault?

Of course it's impossible to protect your children 100%. And yes, life often isn't fair. You know this, or you would be on DU and not FR.

That being said - if you let the inability to achieve 100% certainty paralyze your enjoyment of life, it's time to rethink your approach.

Hmmm...and reading some of your other posts, I can see that at the very least, you have no particular personal problem with me, so I'm pleased that I haven't offended you.

Nonetheless - given your current outlook, I would strongly recommend an appeal to logic on one particular issue. I would be curious to know your view of anti-depressants, and whether or not you think they are ever useful. It seems that if you already view the world as unredeemable, and a speedy death is preferable (as you seem to say elsewhere) - then I wonder if they would be worth trying (or have you already)?

anti-depressants can treat certain symptoms but not the cause.

I’d rather be on LSD all day LOL! Then I could live in a separate reality just like the leftists. Unfortunately, I need to work for living...so that’s not an option.

True enough - but in that sense, it can be a little like cortisone shots for tendonitis. Your body is not suffering from a lack of cortisone - but reducing the surrounding inflammation can sometimes give the real problem a chance to heal.

Heh...there are days here at work that I don't think it would be obvious if anyone WAS on LSD. (or did you just mean that you wanted to become a dyslexic Mormon?)
