I'm a Disability-Rights activist and writer who lives in a hospital's long-term care unit. I was born with Arthrogryposis, and I'm at the stage where I live with a chronic pulmonary condition.

In July, I will have been in long-term care for ten years, and in this ten year period, alot of people around me have died. With all the people I have gotten to know through the years, and who have died, I think most of them died with dignity.--This includes my sweet wife, who died in 2006 from Cystic Fibrosis.

The will of an individual is nobody's business, unless it imposes harm or inconvenience to others. The governments should keep their noses out of it. Leave the laws alone.--No more laws!

The people who stick their nose into "an individual's will" are those who will benefit from "legalized" euthanasia/assisted-suicide!

Sue Rodriguez was bullied by the Duty-to-Die movement,to "legalize" their services! It did not work, and she got to die as she wanted to anyway.--So, this illustrates my point! Leave the laws alone!

Most of the polls really show that, more than anything, Canadians want improved health-care resources and end-of-life care!--Not KILL-BILLS!

Decriminalizing euthanasia/assisted-suicide only creates a double-standard. Law-enforcement needs a single standard which serves all. Aside from Disabled People, elder abuse is a problem where the laws have been passed. Selfish beneficiaries are excused by the laws, so they can finish family members off to get inheritances. --The laws with all the built-in safeguards, which are never enforced!

All the KILL-BILLS are the same!--Well documented with safeguards against abuse. Nowhere have I read that anyone was charged with murder, of the growing number of involuntary murders which occur.--Because the laws are never enforced, and never will be.

Last year my dear 80 year old mother had a stroke. She had to leave her assisted care facility and go to a nursing home for rehabilitation. She suffered another stroke while in the nursing home and couldn’t do the physical therapy any longer. The doctors told us her medicare would only pay for the nursing home if we put her in the hospice wing.

My mother was having trouble eating and drinking. My mother couldn’t talk clearly or write. The doctor, I’ll just call him Dr. Kevorkian, went to my mother and told her that if it came to the point that she wasn’t getting enough nourishment, then a feeding tube was an option and then he told her that it would be very hard on her and she would most likely develop an infection from it. My mother grimaced, she didn’t say I don’t want that, but the doctor and my sister took the grimace to mean that she didn’t want it. (My daughter was there and she said that she didn’t think my mom really realized that they were asking her permission not to give her a feeding tube.)

I was living overseas. I had been at home on a visit when my mom had the first stroke and I was there for the first few weeks she was in rehab. I had another visit already scheduled in two weeks time. I called my sister and brothers and everyone was taking sides in a family argument over it. I had had in depth discussions with my mom during the Terri Schiavo case and my mother had told me point blank that she wanted machines turned off if she was terminally ill, but don’t ever let her die of starvation or dehydration.

Anyway, to make a long story short, my sister who was the only one there in the same town with my mother assured me that she wouldn’t let mom starve to death, but only a few days before I was scheduled to fly home I got the call that my mom had died. They never gave my mom fluids intravenously nor did they give her a feeding tube. I know that she died from dehydration and/or starvation no matter what they put on the death certificate.

My mom did not have a terminal disease and she should have never been in a hospice unit and no doctor should ever be allowed to withhold nourishment and fluids from a patient.
