Adam Corolla on Men: We’re Not That Dumb
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | November 6, 2010 | Walter Hudson

The term “blackface” rightfully evokes anger, shame, and a sense of righteous indignation. The practice during the dawn of Hollywood, and in Vaudeville and other theatrical productions going back a century prior, despicably cemented racial stereotypes.

It’s a good thing we got rid of blackface, right? Or did we? Comedian and radio personality Adam Corolla points out in an interview for his new book In Fifty Years We’ll All Be Chicks that modern Hollywood is completely comfortable making a mockery of the male.

[In television] guys are treated like buffoons. Whenever they do that thing where the mom is out taking care of her mom and the dad is left behind to prepare a meal for the kid… he’s on the phone with her and he’s dumping pancake batter into the toaster that’s catching on fire. We’re not that dumb. That’s what I’m saying…

TV, advertising, media/Hollyweird and politicians are all cowards, PC nutcases. This is what it has come to, whoever yells and screams like children the loudest gets his (er, I mean her) way.

We saw Adam Corolla at Caroline's on Broadway this evening. His bit on “why I hate LA” and the road signs he showed us was funny and stunning at the same time. “Don't abandon your baby” “Baby safe ...” I had seen the “fleeing sign” myself on the I-5 going down to San Diego years ago.

Men are like fine wine. We have to stomp on them and keep them in the dark until they're mature enough to have dinner with. ;o)

. . . modern Hollywood is completely comfortable making a mockery of the male.

"Modern Hollywood" has appointed itself the definer of modern U.S. culture, through the use of the corrupting effect of . . .

The Laugh Track.

Okay, sounds like a big, "Huh?" comment, but the medium that provides the most common touchstone for social behavior is the television (sadly enough).

It used to be, shows were filmed in front of live audiences. To get the audience to laugh, they HAD TO BE FUNNY!

Now, the canned laugh track explains to the TV audience not only what is funny, but how funny it is.

Once you've defined what should be laughed at, youare on your way to defining what is socially acceptable, what should be scorned, what is stupid, and a whole range of social mores.

Dad does something stupid? Cue the laugh track, and bring in the exasperated but long-suffering wife, or the precocious but more brilliant kid to save Dad. The laugh track proves it was funny, instead of a moronic and lame comedy failure.

Any sitcom today would fail miserably if it had to get laughs on its own merit in front of a live audience.

Blacks and women were regularly portrayed as stupid and rightly subservient right up into the 70’s.

Since then there’s been a sustained conscious effort to make up for that with a reversal of type. Hence, it is white men who are made out to be the idiots now. Black men, white women, and doubly so black women are still the beneficiaries of this reversal.

And yet under it all, it’s somewhat patronizing. I think in part the white men who still overwhelmingly write our cultural stories (in advertising and otherwise) think that if they condescend sufficiently to such ‘disadvantaged’ groups no one will notice that white men are still overwhelmingly our cultural authors.

Name one thing that you use on a daily basis that was NOT invented by a white guy.

That attitude explains a lot of divorces. Please explain why you think the wife is more mature.

I have told my 20 year old son to watch the parents of any girl he even thinks about marrying. If the mom ever talks down to dear old stupid dad, he should make a mad rush to the door and not let the screen door hit him in the butt.

I heard a joke several years ago about a woman complaining her husband wasn’t the man she had married. A friend told her she had been trying to change him from the time of her wedding and had finally succeeded. Now, she was unhappy because he had changed.

I guess you didn't notice my "winking smiley face" at the end of the line. It was a joke I saw on a card one time. BTW...I deeply love and respect my husband and agree that the media go too far to represent men in this day and age as stupid. I'm sorry I offended you. :o(

I apologize. I am glad you were not serious. I am so fed up with the way men are treated in this country. God never planned for woman to have dominion over man.

Women should realize the war on men affects them also. The next generation of men will be girly men or made up of Homosexuals. I am so glad I am 66 years old and won't be around to see the damage this will cause. I do have 5 grown kids, I am very worried about them.
