Gov. Chris Christie Schools Shrill David Gregory on “Meet the Press” over “Bush Tax Cuts” – Video

Here is video of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Meet the Press today with David Gregory. Christie schooled David Gregory on the issue of extending the “Bush Tax Cuts” – which Christie argued is extending the current tax system rather than raising taxes in a bad economy.

It was clear Gregory did not want the Democrats’ desire not to extend the current tax structure to be characterized as a “tax increase,” and became rather shrill in his defense of the question he asked. But Christie was relentless in making clear what Obama and the Democrats are proposing is a tax increase.

David Gregory can always pay more taxes if he so desires.

For the last time:

TAX CUTS INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF REVENUE TO THE GOVERNMENT!!!!!!

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO “PAY” FOR TAX CUTS.

DO NOT BUY THE LIE OF THE DEMOCRATS - TAX CUTS “COST” THE GOVERNMENT MONEY!

CUT TAXES AND CUT SPENDING AT THE SAME TIME TO BOOST THE ECONOMY.

Now I am done shouting.

The dipstick kept on and on about about “How do you pay for a tax cut” when the clear answer is the government must spend less. The tax payer (about 50% of our population) doesn't pay for a tax cut but they sure as heck pay for a tax increase.

The US does not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.

Starve the beast.

The easy answer to “how do you pay for a tax cut” is “the money doesn’t belong to the government”

Christie is pretty amazing but, in all fairness, Gregory did hold his own. Chris Wallace is the best in the business but, like him or not, Gregory ain’t bad.

He should have asked Gregory which system would raise more money for the government:
1. the current tax rates or
2. raising the rates to 100%

Once Gregory admits that the first answer would raise more revenue, he should have confirmed that cutting the rates from 100% to the current rates does not have to be ‘made up’, but actually results in more revenue.

Game, set, match.

Eeeeh, not always.

Basic economics, if you increase the price of something, you reduce the demand.

Think of taxes as the price you pay on the money you make.

If the price gets to high, you simple lose incentive to make more money.

The best example I ever read about this was Rocky Marciano, on why he fought only once (or was it twice?) a year..... The first fight, you get paid, the next fight, you fight for free, and the government gets paid.....So we don't fight for free, we fight the next year....

I was chatting with an acquaintance who has a friend in IRS legal today. Said Tim Geithner was an embarrassment when it comes to enforcement and penalties. Because they are prosecuting five year old cases this individual was surprised by the fact that even though rates were down revenue was up. Shocking. Governor Christie might be shocked at revenue if he were to back off on the confiscatory policies of New Jersey.

Cripes! Gregory is thick! He is confusing status quo with future events.

I saw Greenspan’s comment on “tax cuts being paid for”. He was talking in the general, not specific to cuts that have been in place for 10 years.

“Paying for” talk only has meaning before you make new tax policy. Once consumers have acclimated to the new tax environment, then it is the new status quo, and “paying for” has no meaning.

Christie could not get it through Gregory’s iron-plated skull that, even from the standpoint of those who believe that cuts needed “paying for”, it has already been done by the budgeting process of the last 10 years. Maintaining the current rates will not have an effect on returns to the treasury that need to be “paid for”. Only a new cut would require “paying for” as Krugman or Greenspan know the term.

I know Gregory is not the brightest of bulbs, but... wow!

Dont agree, Gregory kept raising his voice when the Gov was properly calling it a tax increase(a little to shrill for being unbiased)
