I've been there! Our daughter and I visited friends in Tokyo in the summer of 2005, and we went to Kamakura and Enoshima Island, on one of our trips outside the city.

It's a lovely shrine, and the Buddha is very large and impressive!

At the end of one video Obama is a plain suit isseated beween and Kamakura Temple abbot and a translator, who are dressed in he highest Japanese formal dress. Obama is sucking on a green tea popsicle.

Yes he did, but his using someone else's video to get hits for his blog instead of posting the direct link is disgusting and unethical. Bloggers in general are fine, I just dislike those who use low tactics to promote their personal blogs.

I would characterize blog pimps in general as "desperate for attention". Sorta like street-corner soap-box preachers -- they've learned that putting a video display over their heads with the "headline news" draws attention, some of which transfers to the preacher even though it's totally unrelated.

I'm not defending the practice; I find it slimy too. But seriously, who's going to visit their silly little blogs, unless they pimp them?

Maybe FreeRepublic needs to split the "bloggers" area into "bloggers who write their own content" (i.e. authors), and "bloggers who merely link to others' content with a comment" (i.e. blog pimps).

In the meantime, you can do what humblegunner does sometimes -- post the direct link to the content in the FR thread. Like this:
