The Wall Street Journal looks at Barack Obamas performance at the G-20 summit as well as his trip to Seoul and pronounces it the worst ever for an American President. The editors are disgusted by the performance, but in the end say failure was the right outcome:
Has there ever been a major economic summit where a U.S. President and his Treasury Secretary were as thoroughly rebuffed as they were at this weeks G-20 meeting in Seoul? We cant think of one. President Obama failed to achieve any of his main goals while getting pounded by other world leaders for failing U.S. policies and lagging growth.
The root of this embarrassment is political and intellectual: Rather than leading the world from a position of strength, Mr. Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner came to Seoul blaming the rest of the world for U.S. economic weakness. Americas problem, in their view, is the export and exchange rate policies of the Germans, Chinese or Brazilians. And the U.S. solution is to have the Fed print enough money to devalue the dollar so America can grow by stealing demand from the rest of the world.
The world also rejected Mr. Geithners high-profile call for a 4% limit on a nations trade surplus or deficit, which would amount to new political controls on trade and capital flows. This contradicts at least three decades of U.S. policy advice against national barriers to the flow of money and goods. We dont like to see U.S. Treasury Secretaries so completely shot down by the rest of the world, except when they are so clearly misguided.
Interestingly, it looks as though Obama has truly delivered consensus when one reads the San Francisco Chronicle editorial from yesterdays edition:
Shellacked at home, shellacked abroad. President Obamas Asia trip is extending a losing streak with the latest setback a refusal by other major financial powers to follow his lead to revive the global economy.
The presidents nostrums, which began with a call for stimulus-style pump priming by other nations, had evolved into a plan to ease wild swings in currency values and overboard trade imbalances. But he got next to nothing in showdown meetings with other leaders of the G-20 nations, or major economic powers. U.S. leadership, once taken for granted, has all but vanished, and no ones in charge.
Imam obama is a joke.
unless your goal is the complete destruction of American leadership...
Obammy is not an empty suit.
An empty suit would not be able to bring so much harm to every damned thing he touches.
Obammy is an avowed unAmerican marxist tool.
His goal is to devide and destroy our country.
Whenever Obama does spectacularly poorly, the story disappears from the media. Case in point—his mishandling of the BP oil spill last summer. If the media doesn’t say anything about the G-20 summit, pretty soon people will forget all about it.
But right now....it is a miracle that they are writing the word “failure” in the same sentence as Barack Hussein Obama.
Opinion makers are slowly moving thru the steps...from denial, to the inevitable...acceptance.
Of course, the question is, can we survive it? With so many deadly policies and legislation enacted, I doubt it.

I guess G-20 COULD be worse than his performance at the Olympics-for-Chicago fiasco and the Copenhagen climate change SNAFU; but, boy, that would be worse than Neville Chamberlain could ever have done.
He is so not ready for primetime.
Is there a blog somewhere that has a timeline of every failure? I had forgotten the copenhagen and olympic failures.
I do hope he maintains the current performance level through the remainder of his term.
U.S. leadership, once taken for granted, has all but vanished, and no ones in charge.
This reflects more of a problem than economics. Whitehouse staffs performed miserably, putting their President in that position. Any deals should have been arranged in advance and the outcome known in advance before putting a President in such a position. Obama’s staff will destroy him without our help if trips like this one continue. Are they playing by the seat of their pants? Really second rate, the whole show.
The forces that are destroying our country are the same groups and individuals that have been at it for thirty years.
Obama doesn't plan or scheme or design strategies. He just does what they tell him to.
At least Rodney Dangerfield was funny.
