Governor Palin’s book America by Heart is set to be released this coming Tuesday. As with every book, advanced copies are released to the press for reviewing purposes only. Those advanced copies usually come with conditions attached which include not disclosing any part of the book until a certain agreed date.
"Did you ever wonder where the producers of American Idol come up with the seemingly endless supply of people who can't sing but are deluded enough to get up in front of a national television audience and screech out a song anyway?"
Many of the contestants’ ability (or. More accurately, inability) to carry a tune reminds me uncomfortably of me. But they get up and sing anyway and are unaccepting and horrified when the judges’ critiques begin. No one they’ve encountered in their lives – from their parents to their teachers to their president – wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth. So they grew up convinced they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.
On American Idol, of course, these self-esteem-enhanced but talent-deprived performers eventually learn the truth. After they’ve embarrassed themselves for the benefit of the producers, they are told in no uncertain terms that they, in fact, can’t sing, regardless of what they’ve been told by others. But in the wilder world, these kinds of instances of hard-truth-telling are increasingly rare. Instead of eventually confronting the limits of their inflated egos when it comes to paying the rent and putting food on the table, Americans are increasingly being told not to worry about it. Someone else will provide for them. I think a large part of the appeal of American Idol is the spectacle of Simon Cowell pouring cold water over the heads of these young people. Cowell can be a little harsh at times, but he upholds the highest standards, and something in us recognizes and responds to that.
Unfortunately, Cowell is almost alone in his willingness to tell hard truths. Instead, a growing chorus of voices is trying to convince our kids that hard work isn’t necessary anymore, that they’re entitled to a lengthening list of benefits paid for by others, and that they don’t have to accept the consequences of their actions when those consequences are bad. These voices seem to think that the purpose of government – the purpose of America – isn’t to promise equal opportunity but to produce equal outcomes. If we all just magically had the same number of material possessions, we’d all be happy. And their preferred way to bring about magical situation is by redistributing income. During the campaign, Obama called it “spreading the wealth.” Whatever the term, it means government taking from some and giving to others.
Thanks for the ping! Excellent article.
People VOLUNTEER and line up to be on American Idol.
They INVITE “celebrities” to be on DWTS.
It is common knowledge many are poor dancers such as octogenarian Buzz Aldrin, or that Sports Center guy who has now made a career on the show because he was their worst dancer ever.
There is no comparison, furthermore Bristol is improving as adancer and got “9’s” on one dance from all three professional judges.
Precisely! Well stated, Williams.
Thank you very much!!
In a test on Math and Science, American school kids did almost the absolute worst; yet when asked to rank how they thought they did - they all seemed to think they did a much better job than they actually did. Americans: #49 out of 50 in actual results, but #1 in self esteem. Ouch! Palin hit the nail on the head with this one...

Very good read.
American Idol is going into the gutter this year, you can probably bank it.
self-esteem = selfish steam
Glad to hear it Sarah. You've got wonderful values as a person. You are courageous, patient, and positive. Now go learn something about history, military strategy, and economics before running for President. Reagan spent years traveling the country with a GE VP learning how manufacturing works in the real world. He studied de Toqueville, Montesquieu, and the writings of the Founders. I suggest you do something similar. I cringe every time you open your mouth with yet another empty sound bite. You might make a fine President someday. You are not ready yet.
Ouch! Palin hit the nail on the head with this one...
YES! Sarah Palin can sure write brilliantly. Her degree in journalism is shining through. If she can articulate her visions and solutions for America, only half as well as she write, she's going to sweep to the nomination and the presidency.
I think we're now into Week #3 of "STOP SARAH" (Alinksy style) and now I see the lamestream is going after daughter Willow, --- wild child and rumored pregnancy.
May God bless and protect Sarah Palin and her family. There is never any let-up from the lamestream.
I can barely wait until my book arrives!
Sans Simon Cowell, well DUH.
The Tortoise and the Hare ~
a great lesson, it would seem.
One has humble confidence,
the other, selfish steam.
They just can’t resist one Palin thread. Can they?
And Bristol told Mark that she drove down from Alaska to Cali in her truck to get there. She was 19 and made up her mind to do it. Sarah couldn’t have stopped her anyway.
Nope, not a one.
Pit - tee - full.
SarahPalinUSA The publishing world is LEAKING out-of-context excerpts of my book w/out my permission? Isn't that illegal?MT @C4Palin http://bit.ly/cD6DOQ
Thank you very much for the information!
You betcha it’s illegal and I found the original source last night. I’ll think I’ll let her know “via channels.”
Ping to Al B.’s post.
It’ll all make sense to you, soon.
ROFL! Using your best "Jed Clampett" impersonation I take it.
I can almost hear 'ol Jed sayin'
Pit - tee - full. Jes Pit - tee - full.
And he'd be right too
LOL. Yep, that’s the voice I intended!
Honestly I’d like to see Sarah go away for a while. By the time 2012 comes around people will be so sick of her they’ll be looking for someone else. She’ll end up being like Obama where people just tune her out because they’re sick of hearing about her.
and jsut remember that it is and has been Mitt Romney’s staff that has continually attacked Sarah Palin from the start. I would no more vote for that idiot than I would Ted kennedy. Just my thoughts
Well, there’s no way she’s going away right now, with her TLC series and her new book tour. At least, she is defining herself. God knows the lamestream keeps taking its shots to tear her down, so she can’t just run away and hide.
Thanks for the reminder, and you’re right.
Romney is a snake. I won’t vote for him either.
Thank you so much for the truth of what was written. I read on another blog that Nygel was blasting Sarah over her comments about AI. Of course, they didn’t read what she really wrote, but, nonetheless, the haters have chimed in with their hate-filled comments. Just go read mjsbigblog, and how this ultra-liberal applauds Nygel for standing up to Sarah’s remarks. Of course, neither one have read the book. Then you have the boot licking, butt-kissing, fans of MJ, agreeing.
These people are sickening!
This is funny.... If that’s the best they got then the PDS leftists must be on suicide watch....
They’re not fit to shine Sarah Palin’s boots.
I listen to her speak.
How would you know what she reads in her free time?
She cannot be doing what she is doing publicly, raising Trig, and doing that much reading. It's impossible.
How would you know what she is educating herself in or has educated herself in?
It's easy. She speaks, I listen. There has been no improvement.
Quit paroding the left-wing press, they don't need any help.
That would be "parroting" and I'm not.
Wow, Sarah nails it.
I’ve said for years this ‘self esteem’ business is preventing the youths of today learning how to deal with adversity.
They can’t take criticism . If they are ‘disrespected’ they go get a gun and shoot you.
