This is a special Thanksgiving show. We have a tradition on this program. Every Thanksgiving we read from my book. See, I Told You So. Book #2. That book also sold over 2.4 million copies in hard cover. The first two million copies were sold in eight weeks during November and December, when the book came out. It was the second book. Of course they said second books never do as well as the first. Just another one of these little bits of conventional wisdom that we here at the EIB Network have blown up. But it's the true story, the Real Story of Thanksgiving is something that wasn't even taught when I was in school. I was in school back in the '50s and early '60s in grade school when all this stuff was taught. Here's the basic synopsis of what I was taught about Thanksgiving, what everybody, I think, was taught. And when I began to research this for the book, it's why I was so surprised.

There is a lot to be said for the Protestant work ethic, as well.
Protestants who colonized here, in fact believed that an idle mind was the devil’s workshop. AND of course, idle hands = idle mind.
If you were poor, you were lazy. If you were lazy, you were evil.
The stigma associated with poverty was NOT that you had old clothes and a hole in your roof...but that you were too lazy to provide for yourself.
However, being Christians, Protestants were charitable to people who were too ill or lame, orphaned, etc. who couldn’t care for themselves. I do NOT believe they ever intended that entire masses of the population OR any able bodied individuals should become a permanent burden to charitable Christians. THAT would be (and IS) theft.
I am certain this is YET a fair and functional concept.
Boy, just imagine if the first Thanksgiving were being held today? The Pilgrims would be sitting down with the Indians for keno.
