Gander Mountain (N.Y. state) -- pistol permit to purchase ammo???
self | 11/27/10 | NewJerseyJoe

Gander Mountain is having a Thanksgiving weekend special on Remington UMC 9mm Luger ammo. Went in this morning to purchase ... and the guy at the counter asked for my pistol permit. Huh? Never before have I been asked for a pistol permit in order to purchase ammo.

I live just over the state line in New Jersey, and getting a pistol permit here is generally about a 30-day effort. So I'll miss this sale.

Is this a new law in New York? I never encountered this situation before.

I have never heard of such a thing.

Do you need a DL to purchase gas or diesel?

What if you wanted it for a carbine?
Or are those illegal in NY?

That isn’t a very good price, and the add says that is the “web price only”

Did the clerk decline to sell you the ammo without your permit, or did he or she just request it, leading you to believe on your own that it was required? Sounds like something an anti-gun clerk would do. Ask in a very officious tone for your permit, knowing full well it's not a requirement, just to scare off some buyers who don't know the difference.

I wouldn't put anything past them!

Only a licensed handgun owner is allowed to possess ammunition suitable for the licensed handgun and is allowed to possess an ammunition feeding device for the licensed handgun, but not to exceed 17 rounds capacity.

In NYC you need the permit. Outside no, but it could be store policy in areas near the city.

F them.

That’s a New York CITY law. NYC laws are separate from the rest of N.Y. state.

I live across the state line in New Jersey. I had my N.J. Firearms ID with me, but getting a pistol permit in N.J. (which has to done EACH time you want to buy a pistol) is about a 30-day endeavor.

After I showed my ID and it still wasn’t good enough, I left. I sent a message to Gander Mountain asking why I was refused purchase, even though N.Y. state law has no prohibition on ammunition purchase.

The price was also in Gander Mountain’s Black Friday sale flyer (prices good all weekend).

Where I live, that actually *is* a good price. Gubmint ain’t too friendly to gun owners around these parts.

Wallyworld in Fishkill, NY demends a NY State permit for pistol calibers.
For .22—they ask what KIND of weapon you use. (Better say a rifle!)

9mm is not exclusive to handguns either, so what if you wanted to buy 9mm ammunition for a rifle?

Geographically, yes. Philosophically, not so much. They keep electing morons like Chucky Schumer.

I don’t think it matters where you live in New York state, you still need a license/permit to own or possess a handgun. But NY city is even more restrictive.

CAMP GUNFREE!

A common sense and historically proven way to keep those dangerous and destructive GUNS out of YOUR life. MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE NOW!

Details below.

Concerned about the easy availability of guns in our society?

Are you as alarmed as the United Nations and some within our own government about the "gun nuts" and other freedom wackos allowed to run loose?

Wish the government would just repeal the Second Amendment and confiscate all the guns because you believe sensible people shouldn't suffer because of some idiotic notion about some antiquated “right?”

While we can't take the guns away from the people, we CAN take the people (or at least SOME of them) away from their guns.

Nazi Germany Weapons Law (1938) §1: "Jews are prohibited from acquiring, possessing, and carrying firearms and ammunition, as well as truncheons or stabbing weapons. Those now possessing weapons and ammunition are at once to turn them over to the local police authority."

At CAMP GUNFREE, we have created an atmosphere of near-total tranquility where you and your family will experience the benefits of a GUN FREE environment.

Each of our camps is a gated community designed to keep guns away from camp guests. Firmly enforced security measures ensure that these dangerous and destructive devices are kept outside. Each camp boasts 24 hour, 7 day a week sentries and state-of-the-art enclosure systems, guard dogs, trenches and surveillance equipment to absolutely GUARANTEE that no firearms enter the facility. Rigidly controlled access ensures that no guns will ever be smuggled in.

No cost has been spared to ensure that Camp GunFree remains gun free.

What goes on in states like NJ and NY still stuns me. I can walk into my local Wal*Mart or Dick’s or Cabela’s and buy whatever ammunition I want.
