High School Football Player Gets Penalized For Pointing To God

Occasionally we come across a story like this and the injustice can only make you sit back, shake your head, and wonder what we are coming to. A extraordinary young man, Ronnie Hastie, who plays high school football in Spokane, Oregon, always makes it a habit after scoring a touchdown to quickly kneel in the end zone and point to God – in an effort to give him the credit for the score and for his talent.

In this particular game, after a 23 yard touchdown, he took 1-2 seconds to do what he’s always done traditional…quickly kneel and point to God. But this time, the ref didn’t appreciate it and threw a penalty flag directly at his chest- docking the team 15 yards. KOMO-4 writes:

"Hastie said he’s pointed up as a gesture to God after every touchdown he’s scored in every game and never had a problem before.

“It’s usually one or two seconds long,” he said. “It’s something I’ve done as a tradition.”

Hastie said he asked the ref why he was penalized, and the ref responded that Hastie wasn’t supposed to draw attention to himself.

“That wasn’t the point (of the gesture), so I guess I was a little confused,” Hastie said. “I do that to give glory to my heavenly father, Jesus. He gives me the strength. He’s the one who gives me these abilities in the first place.”

Hastie’s father said his son points skyward in an effort to recognize something more important, actually trying to draw attention away from himself.'

It wasn’t flagrant, it wasn’t drawn out, and it sets a great example to young people everywhere. My opinion? Political correctness needs to die a slow, painful death.

Isn’t it about time for the fans at some High School to mob the field and tar & feather a ref that does this kind of crap? Anyone offended by it should stay the hell away and any ref that decides such a “display” is worthy of a flag should never referee another game. After the tar & feathers, of course.

JMHO

Regards

INDEED.

Or maybe the ref was upset that the kid wasn’t making a pass AT HIM.

You stated that in the body of your text, but you claim authorship in your header. Also, the link in you text leads to your blog - not the video.

No, my comments on the story are mine and youtube is an open domain for use. I gave credit to the part of KOHO that belongs to them.

If you and HG spent as much time doing something meaningful in life instead unnecessarily policing FR you might actually be able to claim making a difference in this world. There are those that do and those that criticize. Let me urge and encourage you to spend that time and energy on something that can make a difference in this country and in this world. I’m sure if you put that same focus on something useful you could be known as a difference maker.

Yes, the "do" in this case is to claim authorship of another's work.

That's doggy-do, Brits.. and you know it.

If drawing attention to ones self is the criteria then what about the running back that scores after a long run, solely! What about the return man scoring after a 100 yard return! BS!!!!

Separation of church and sport.

Religion, tribal warfare, and team sports are all closely related going back many thousands of years. All things being about equal, the tribe with the superior religion destroys the tribe without. Anyone that denies this is a dangerous fool.

Yes it is, and Jesus said God will still know what you're thinking, even if you don't make a show of it.
