Dem says itís wrong to celebrate Christmas if unemployment benefits not extended

Dem says it’s wrong to celebrate Christmas if unemployment benefits not extended. On Thursday’s magnificent installment of "Hardball" on MSNBC (which is barely watched by anyone…except the hardest of hardcore libs), Congressman Jim McDermott was on with Chris Matthews, making the case about unemployment benefits extension, when he brought Christianity into the mix. According to McDermott, it’s "simply wrong" to celebrate Christmas and some of its themes like caring about the poor…if Americans do not support extending unemployment benefits. This week was a particularly insane week on "Hardball," as earlier in the week, Democrat senator Sherrod Brown blasphemed that unemployment benefits create jobs! Clearly, "Hardball" is becoming the clearing house of low-rated, cable "news" shows where wild Democrats appear to use twisted logic to make the case for unemployment benefits extension.

Wouldn’t it be prudent to pay for them? It’s probably Christian to seek to extend help to those in need, but foolish to do so with somebody else’s money.

Then again, that’s two thoughts in a row again. I keep forgetting Democrats are constitutionally incapable of that.

sorry.

How long do these people expect to extend this welfare? If a person can not get a job in 2 years they are either not wanting one, or are never going to do what it takes to get one. Enough is enough.

Christians have always taken care of people. It feels good to give and help. Now the government wants the credit for helping people so they take your money from you before you have a chance to give. They then take credit for the good they do with your money. You get no credit and instead of feeling good you are angry.

Which will lead to endless sound clips about "Republicans demand that benefits for the unemployed be paid for but not tax cuts for the wealthy, blah, blah, blah." Why do you think the Democrats have timed the vote on tax cuts so close behind the defeat of unemployment extensions? They don't care either, except for the political points that they can score off it.

Oh, I know, N-S. I was just being wistful for the minute there, trying to make simple sense without bothering with political posturing or calculation. I think what blessing there is in this resides in the fact that, if it hadn't been pinged here, no one would even have known that McDermott had opened his mouth. Even the Dem hoi polloi don't pay attention, they just nod and obediently check where they're told to.

This isn’t even new, of course. This has been the project for Progressivism since the 1880’s. The idea was and is to supplant private charity so that religion as a counterweight to government could eventually be turfed out altogether. Then the cult of the state as God could be quietly installed and children taught to worship Baal.

Come to think of it, that makes the project a lot older than the 1880’s, eh? {eyeroll}

Using this malignant logic of the LIBs, it would be wrong to celebrate Christmas as long as their is a LIB moonbat in any position and at any level. Can’t these assclown DIM/LIBs just go away and leave us alone? As Willie C used to say: Hey LIBs...”put some ice on it”.

I know one who rode out the UE benefits until they were gone. She finally went and found a job the very next week after her UE ended.

Not much of a job, but a job nonetheless. She never even attempted to find work as long as that money was being deposited to her Indiana Works debit card.

Yet she and her unemployed hubbie just spent the weekend at a casino, bought a 60" tv, a new bedroom suite for her son, and usually spend more on Christmas presents for their one teenager than I will spend for everybody combined.

For those who cannot find any work in 2 years and not willing or able to move to find it, there is a different pot of money called “welfare”

Employers and still-emplopyed people have been carrying the unemployed for far too long as if they were in a temporary situation. It now appears the jobs of many unemployed folks will never come back.

Time for the State govts to man up and expand the welfare roles. We also pay taxes for that.

I think there is only one reason why McDermott holds a special place in his heart for Christmas:

[1] And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. [2] (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) [3] And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. [4] And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) [5] To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

It was a tax day!

I realize some are put into bad situations through no fault of their own, but two years is plenty of time to find a new job. It is enough time to even get retrained into a completely different field.

How long do these people expect to extend this welfare? If a person can not get a job in 2 years they are either not wanting one, or are never going to do what it takes to get one. Enough is enough.

So what do we do about it?

A huge portion of the unemployed are young people, whose labor value does not exceed minimum wage. Republicans should propose either lowering the minimum wage significantly, or allowing employee-employer to sign a waiver.

Young people would benefit from the initial job training that even burger-flipper jobs provide. How to show up. How to show up on time. How to show up on time dressed propertly. How to follow business protocols. How to cooperate with others. How to achieve goals. How to run a business. Plumbers would hire apprentices and train them. Construction people would train carpenters, roofers, electricians.

Perhaps the saddest of the sad unintended consequences of raising minimum wage is the loss of the willingness on the part of business to train workers, thereby increasing the value of their labor over time. This is why each minimum wage bill includes more and more tax money for worker training, which the private sector would do far better, and for free, in the absence of a minimum.

This is an issue that I hope the tea parties, since they're probably wondering what to do next, will take up. The tea parties should take it one issue at a time, and be willing to march to get a discussion going on this issue. The time is right. It is now a winning issue.

After 99 weeks it’s time to apply for welfare “benefits”, go to the churches and other charities for help.

Oh yeah, also sell the third car, sell the second car, cut the cable/satelite television, stop buying soda, cigarettes and renting movies, stop eating out.

And stop looking for a job and start looking for work.

I work everyday and I haven’t had a “job” or unemployment “benefits” in years.

It’s time to start allowing people to be poor.

Elections have consequences. These socialist/marxists were elected into power in 2008 and their goal is to bankrupt America and destroy free market, private sector capitalism.

The Republicans were burned in the Great Depression, because they were seen, correctly, as letting people close to starvation fend for themselves. This millstone was around their necks, politically, until the curse was finally broken by Ronald Reagan, in the 1980s.

This is about 45 years of bitter hatred from entire families against the Republicans.

So let’s not do this again, m’kay?

Now, that being said, we need to be crystal clear that what the Republicans in congress are trying to do right now, is *not* to deny extended unemployment benefits to increasingly desperate people.

They are *not* trying to do this. *Not*, *not*, *not*!

Instead, they are *just* demanding that the money for extending these unemployment benefits *must* come from *CUTS* to other government spending.

The purpose is to stop the deficit from growing, *NOT* to hurt people!

*NOT* to hurt people!

Some of you “bootstrappers” out there are of the firm belief that jobs are out there, that there are cesspools that need to be cleaned with toothbrushes, and endless stoop labor jobs to pick dingleberries, both at hearty, luxurious minimum wages.

YOU’RE WRONG. Let’s be clear. While I’m as much in favor of former Microsoft Certified Software Engineers digging ditches, there are just not a heck of a lot of ditches that need to be dug. Especially by middle aged people whose entire careers have been pushing papers and crafting Powerpoint slides, before their retirement funds were looted and they were canned.

So back off. Economic downturns happen. It doesn’t mean that for one second you should revel in schadenfreude over the suffering of your fellow citizen.

$58 billion, to extend their benefits, isn’t squat, unless of course it is added to the multi-trillion dollar and growing deficit. If it is taken from the budget of the “Federal Office of Nanny-Statism and Bureaucratic Growth”, I have not problem AT ALL in it being given to unemployed people eking out a living right now.

But this money is all that stands between vast numbers of VOTERS and misery. Misery that can very easily turn against the Republicans and keep them out of office for another 45 years.

So let’s not mess it up. Again.

McDermott needs to realize that the "magic" of the democrat guilt-trip has about worn off. But then an abiding knowledge of human nature and life's wisdom has never been a strong suit with the democrats anyway.

I grew up in a cotton mill town, where lots of folks were poor and had a housefull of children. Some Christmas' the kids only got an Orange, or some candy...but they still had Christmas for Christmas' sake...not for the presents.

In that cotton mill town, if folks were laid off, they were just laid off...no unemployment benefits as a "wage" back then.

One of the most fantastic Christmas gifts of all has already been bestowed upon us this year, the routing of the Democrat congress and neutering of the kenyan. All of the tickled Elmos and video games in the world couldn't top that.

McDermott has received his talking points distribution form, and is rejugitating the "mean Republican" lines - never mind that they aren't in power YET. The democrats haven't been able to deliver on a lot of things they promised, and have had a supermajority for two years now...that doesn't say much for them.

Their "Santa Got Run Over By A Republican" song is just beginning, and it's going to get louder when they reach the Halleleujah chorus. Their plan - as usual, is - I can't make you like me, so I'll make you hate him more...like I said, no concept of human nature.

The mere fact however that he chose Chris Matthews show to deliver his programmed chant is very telling...in Matthews' far left corner of the world, no one celebrates Christmas anyway - at least not for the right reasons.

The Federal government is not empowered by the Constitution to be in the charity business.

There are charities that will help these people.

YOU may help these people.

I repeat, the federal government is not empowered by the constitution to PAY THESE PEOPLE NOT TO WORK.

Since my brothers refuse to work for $10.00 an hour theyeven get their schooling paid for.

I’m willing to work for $10.00 an hour, when I take classes I have to pay for them.

The democrats don’t want to teach a man to fish (work) - they want to give him a fish every day (welfare), so that the man must go to them to eat. In fact, the democrats want to prevent the man from fishing by laying down a thick fiber of regulations so that even if the man learned to fish (and thus could become self-sufficient), he would not be able to legally do so and would thus be enslaved to the ones that provided him the fish.

And, of course, they also want to enslave the remaining fishermen (productive citizens) by confiscating their fish (through taxes) to give to the man that they won’t allow to fish in order to gain his trust (in essence, buying the votes of the non-productive with wealth stolen from the productive).

Dems celebrate Christmas?!!! I thought they celebrate Holidays. Funny how they change their tune to suit their needs.

Truth is, money is not the reason for celebrating the birth of our Precious Lord Jesus. We celebrate His birth. How about celebrating His Birth and give Him a present instead.

The song "Joy to the World" should be changed to "Money to the world" if the Dems want to be PC.

If people en masse really are as desperate as the Rats claim, then they are eligble for welfare after their unemployment checks stop.

If they don’t qualify for welfare, then they have assets and income sufficient to avoid starvation at least.

I’m not suggesting people are not hurting. I’m saying the Rats have once again set up a pathetic straw man.
