Palin knows the issues, Ed Rollins (and unlike your boy Perot, she’s sane)

I like Sarah Palin, but you already know that. And as I’ve often said, I have no idea if she wants to run for president. The resolution of that question is not terribly important to me. I am more interested in policy substance than in politics, especially when it comes to campaigns that are yet in the future, and I don’t sit around obsessing over whether someone I respect is going to run for this, that or the other thing.

Who are you telling to study?

But it seems that just about everyone else is obsessed with Palin’s presidential prospects, and that includes a certain Ed Rollins, who holds forth today on CNN.com with a piece titled, “Palin, I knew Reagan. You’re no Reagan.”

Well.

There is much to mock about a piece on Gov. Palin’s supposed lack of presidential qualifications, especially coming from a man who once tried to help win the presidency for H. Ross Perot, who was not only unqualified but also insane.

But the one that deserves to be exploded is one of the most oft-repeated, condescending slams on Palin. It certainly does not represent any original thinking on Rollins’s part, as it’s been expressed many times by the likes of George Will and just about every D.C.-based political consultant. It is this:

“If you want to be a player, go to school and learn the issues.”

Bullshit, Mr. Rollins. Bullshit.

The notion that Sarah Palin isn’t up to speed on the issues is one of the most groundless ideas on the political landscape today. Take your pick where it comes from: The stupid Charlie Gibson “Bush Doctrine” question? (In which Gibson demonstrated he doesn’t know anything about the Bush Doctrine.) The media’s full-court coverup of Palin’s truthfulness in talking about death panels?

Spot on article!

I've known successful political consultants. Mr. Rollins, you're not one.

Honestly thought Rollins was deceased until he surfaced for this. He should thank her for bringing him back...he’ll probably be getting a lot more Christmas cards this year.

“If you want to be a player, go to school and learn the issues.”

I couldn't agree more.

Knowing about a particular issue is one thing, knowing how the government is supposed to be run is another. Palin knows what government can and can’t do. More important she fully understands what America is about. I’ll bet she knows plenty about all the major issues too.

WHATEVER her role, we’re better off with her than without.

Thank you Palin family. You give me hope for the future of our great country.

The thing that kills me about the 'unqualified' tactic is that a President doesn't need to be an expert on all of the 'gotcha' topics the press or DC elites can conjur up. More than a few good Presidents were modiocre men but they surrounded themselves with capable people. During WWII, General Eisenhower was never known for being a great tactician, but he was a great administrator. He knew what he didn't know and got somebody to fill him in so he could make informed decisions. Fortunately, his Presidency was during fairly mild times but his waging of the global war was not.

A good President is, above all, an effective manager and a great President is above all principled in the virtues of Americanism. Sarah Palin certainly has the principles and she has the potential to be a great President if she shapes up to be an effective manager. No question, IMM, that she can take the heat and give as well a get. She's a quick study and has a strong backbone. FWIW, she certainly seems to be setting the agenda for all of the empty suits and talking heads who usually assume they're the ones in charge of the national debate.

For all of the piss and wind whirling about a Palin Presidency, there is NO question that she's certainly more qualified than the current dipstick playing games and destroying the nation. Isn't it odd how that debate isn't being waged in plush circles and in ink across the fruited plain?

Sarah Palin will do just fine in the White House as President and Todd will reintroduce America to the concept of real manhood.

Why would we want another “player” as President of the United States.

Why would we want another player “schooled” at another commie University hive?

Complete and utter balderdash!

What issues would you say Mrs Palin is not up to snuff on? She sounds pretty well-versed too me. What did Ike know, except military matters? Nixon surely wowed us with his command of economic matters! FDR allowed eastern Europe to fall under Soviet control. But I digress.

Sarah Palin is certainly qualified to be POTUS. Perhaps more so than any modern president with the exception of Reagan.

By the way, I think 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' is lame. Yet irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. One should him/herself, 'what REALLY matters' as to the direction our country needs to be taken, and whom best to get us there?
I'll tell you who - the lady running around barefooted in her home up in Wasilla.

THAT is the BEST line I've read to sum up this situation...spot on.
