The Metrodome, The Taxes, and The Vikings.

The Metrodome,

The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of 17.1 inches of snow last night. Leaving the sorry Minnesota Vikings without a home stadium for this week's game against the New York Giants team. The stadium is twenty-eight years old, and can hold over 64,000 fans at any given NFL game.

The Taxes,

Public Policy Polling recently found that 49% of Minnesota voters would rather have the Vikings leave for greener pastures, such as California, than to publicly fund a new stadium with taxpayer dollars via increased taxes. With the stadium situation reaching a zenith of epic proportions with yesterday's snow storm, one must wonder whether the voters will change their minds on public funding.

Expect the roof collapse to be used as proof the taxpayers need to cough up for a new Vikings stadium. I wouldn’t be surprised if the snow was allowed to build up to the point of collapse on purpose.

Some wag on the internet said that he saw Brett Favre up there on the roof with a machete.

Somewhere Bud Grant was cheering. Football was meant to be played outdoors.

And they’ll get that new stadium. They always do.

But apparently, they cannot support 17 inches of snow. Sorry, but it seems that Minnesota has had snowstorms and blizzards before.... and I expect, more snow than that. SO is this Tarp fatigue?

That’s what you get for having a ‘Glad Bag’ for a roof.

The roof has collapsed before...but all of the sudden it is being used as an excuse for a new stadium?

There is a chance it will be repaired and ready to go by next Sunday...so the repairs can’t be that expensive (a week’s labor and three rolls of duct tape?)

I’m sure the NFL lost alot of money on this - and they will use this to bully the Vikings into a new stadium...how much would it cost to cut that tarp off the stadium and call it ready for play?

Let ‘em go for all I care. They’re a second-rate team and have been (with a couple of exceptions) since the days of the Purple People Eaters. The Dome is a boondoggle and Favre is kaput. Sail away, Vikings. I for one won’t miss you.

THIS is my problem with professional sports. I don’t mind that owners are billionaires and players are millionaires. I DO mind that they turn to the taxpayers to subsidize their business ventures and then make their millions charging those same taxpayers exhorbitant fees to see the fruits of their tax “contributions.”

Apparently all of its collapses happen from around a foot of show. It is just held up by air, and when you think of the size of it that is a lot of snow.

Good question. Does it really need the baggie on top?

It hasn’t collapsed on the morning of a game before, and this is the second to last season of their lease. “Good” timing for the Vikings’ owners. And you couldn’t just cut it off and call it ready to play, there’s a lot of important stadium parts (like the lights) attached to the roof. Not to mention that the field isn’t designed to deal with moisture.

They need a new dome, a new quarterback, and a new source of revenue to help fund the new dome they need.

They could move to wherever they want and they'll still need a new quarterback.

I don't believe that for a minute as Farve can't hit anything this year.

Actually, the Vikes next, and last for the season, home game was to be Monday, 12/20 vs Chicago. There’s no way in hell it will be ready by then.

Play it at the University of Minnesota stadium, the Saints had to play at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge the year of Katrina.
