I agree with him, I’m an atheist and I love Christmas also. Complain all you want but it’s becoming more and more secular every year.

“Complain all you want but it’s becoming more and more secular every year.”

As long as the message of Christmas isn’t changed, it doesn’t matter to me if you’re a Christian or not. That is to say: “Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Men”. If that’s the message that an atheist takes from Christmas, I can live with that.

Christians must observe the deeper religious meaning of Christmas. The birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. But, if others choose to make it a winter party, and join in the celebration, that can’t be bad.

The only gripe I have with the “War on Christmas” is when retailers, employers or public officials forbid Christian expressions of Christmas. I really only want one thing.

Allow each of us to keep Christmas in our own way.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Ummm, yeah as long as those who aren’t celebrating the birth of Christ crash the party.

That is to say: “Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Men”

No disrespect meant, but the entire verse is "Peace on earth and goodwill to men ON WHOM HIS FAVOR RESTS". (There are several versions of this, depending upon which Bible you use.) That last part always seems to get left off.

“No disrespect meant... “

None taken. I knew that someone would ding me for trying to distill the Christmas message into a secular, positive message. My intent is that even if you aren’t Christian, the positive message of the Christmas season can be enjoyed.

For those of you that disagree, or choose to pick nits...

Merry Christmas.

Ed Koch, Jewish mayor of New York City in the 80s, thought the Christmas lights hanging in City Hall park were so pretty that he would have liked to have kept them up all year.

You don't have to be Christian to enjoy the Christmas season.

Do you say the pledge? To whom to you give thanks for life?

You are the reason for this season.

...I came that they may have life and have it abundantly"John 10:10

Should he be calling it a “CHRISTMAS” coloring book?

Shouldn’t it be called a “Winter Holiday” coloring book?

Guessing that he just wants to take a jab at Christians and Christmas and he could care less about presenting the atheist’s view of the holiday.

This is typical of many atheists — they are not contented with just presenting their secular view of the holiday; they want to prove a point by putting Christmas down.

While I see that qualifier in several modern translations, that last part isn't in the King James Version of Luke 2:14 which reads only as, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

I like a bit decoration and carols but the Coca Cola Santa Christmas is for children.

The more significant Christian holiday should be Easter but it gets short shrift except perhaps for Catholics in terms of Lent.

Latching on to other traditions has been part of selling Christianity since the apostles went forth to spread it to other cultures and parts of the ancient world. The books of the New Testament has numerous letters to cities aimed at their circumstances. It's why gentiles weren't required to be circumcised, for example.

weren't required to be circumcised

Pardon my interrupting, but the reason St. Paul gave for that was to be clear that salvation was by faith, not by some physical sign, which makes excellent theological sense, given the difference between the Christian snd the Jewish dispensations and theology.

You could look it up.

Does that mean I’m getting a lot of presents or something? :)
