Palin on Polls Showing her Trailing Obama: If I Join the Race I Would be in it to Win It Video

Here is video of Sarah Palin being asked about current polls showing her trailing President Obama in a potential 2012 Election matchup. She responds that if she decides to join the GOP primary race, “I would be in it to win it.”

Palin is right that her participation in a GOP Primary battle would give her many opportunities to demonstrate that she has a clear grasp of the issues, and plenty of time to counter the perception built up by the Left and the Liberal Media that she is not up to the job. In addition, if she gets the nomination, her head-to-head debates with Obama would give her the chance to do the same. Expectations by the media would be that Obama would run circles around Palin, but she would have the chance to show otherwise. I think she would do great in debates with Obama. Unlike John McCain, Palin would not be afraid to get tough with him on his radical associations and his socialist agenda to remake (“radically transform”) America in the image of a Socialist European country.

“If I Join the Race I Would be in it to Win It”

My first thought is “Dahhhh.”

But then I remember John McCain and Bob Dole. So on second thought, it’s refreshing coming from a Republican.

A little history on Polls and how unimportant they are to the final result:

Harris Poll January 29, 1980:

CARTER NOW FAR AHEAD OF BOTH REAGAN AND BUSH

"President Carter so dominates the American political scene now that his margin over Ronald Reagan in a post-Iowa trial heat has risen to an overwhelming 65-31 percent."

Also, Time magazine ran a big story in March of that year basically saying Reagan was unelectable. Gallup had a poll in that time frame with Reagan down 25 points.

Here's another blast from the past, March 10, 1980. The GOP establishment had decided they needed another candidate besides Bush to stop Reagan and started recruiting Gerald Ford:

ABC News - Harris poll: FORD LEADS BOTH CARTER AND REAGAN, ALTHOUGH STILL UNDECLARED CANDIDATE

"Former President Gerald Ford is the first choice of Republican and independent voters to head the GOP ticket, even though he has not yet declared himself a candidate for the Republican nomination.

Ford also leads President Carter among the general electorate."

Here's another one for your collection:

Historic Whispers: Ronald Reagan Had Little Chance of Winning the Primary

White House political strategists have concluded—regretfully—that Ronald Reagan is fading and will have little chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination in 1980. Why the regrets? Because Carter's aides are convinced that the conservative, 68-year-old former California governor is an easy target. (April 2, 1979)

Like they loved John Connally and Howard Baker in 1979. Anybody but Ronald Reagan back in those days. Same ol', same ol'....

"Although the Gipper had a near mystical hold over grassroots conservatives, he was still not held in high regard by the power brokers of the GOP. In the spring of 1979, a survey of leading Republicans showed John Connally to be their first choice for GOP nominee in 1980, with 31.9 percent of the vote; Howard Baker came in second with almost 18 percent; Reagan was essentially tied with George Bush at 11 percent."
-- Craig Shirley, Rendezvous With Destiny, pg. 36. (Citation to U.S. News article from April 16, 1979)

People said Reagan could never be elected president.

Hillary Clinton and some Democrats back in ‘08 said that Obama couldn’t win. Of course Hillary and her flunkies wanted to promote Hillary with talk that Obama was unelectable, but still, those stories were out there at the time.

Heck, some Democrats leading up to the ‘08 primaries were nervous since Hillary was the front-runner, and they thought that she could not win the general election. We may never know if Hillary could or couldn’t. But the point is, more than one candidate has been elected who some political pros said couldn’t be elected.

Obama is praying for Palin to run.

Then he's even more deluded than I thought. He would lose, hands down.

Two words: electoral college

What he really should be praying for is some RINO like Romney.

The ridiculous begins (and I support her.) That’s just what they all say, the Doles, McGoverns, Cains, and to the very last minute, including the concession speech, they will be introduced as “The Next President of the United States!!!”

“I would be in it to win it.”

Meaning she would pull no punches, leave no stone unturned and take no prisoners. She probably wouldn't hesitate to "sling mud" because, after what this ... human tried to do to her and her family through his sycophants in the media, it wouldn't surprise me if she whipped out her birth certificate at a debate with a smile and say, "Here's mine. Where's yours?"

One thing I’ve learned through Palin’s shows, her commentaries, analysis, facebook responses....she is not to be ‘misunderestimated’. She would make a worthy opponent. I have yet to hear ANY republican stand up to OBAMA and the DEMS, besides this lovely woman.

That’s a really nice post. Great information. I’m old enough to remember that election. Up to the weekend before the election, most thought Carter would win.

Wise reconsideration. We haven't seen the half of this woman yet. Remember, whatever she said in 2008 was part of the McCain campaign, not hers. As a loyal running mate, she endorsed the platform as best she could. Some idiot children around here who take her statements from then and think they represent her own positions now, need to wake up.

Sarah is so underestimated when it comes to understanding domestic policy issues. She's a king/queen-maker as 70% of her endorsements won their elections. However, Krauthammer is right in that she does need to take time out and become intimately familiar with international politics, the people, the issues. If she allows herself to develop the breadth to match her depth, she will be formidable. She, and she alone, can call out the evil-intent of foreigners and be spot-on. If she doesn't educate herself, the media will set her up again, and make Dumbo Obama look like a political genius.

However, she lost me with the promotion of the daughter on Dancing with the Stars. I loved the TLC Alaska show--and it was a perfect venue to promote Alaskan travel, her genuineness, etc. Bristol on Dancin' was a set-up she was bound to lose--to a professional dancer at that! The public is NO place for her daughter. Has she even graduated from high school yet? And what's she doing to make a life for her and her son? The Bristol Palin story is another version of MTV Teen Mom and the dancin' exposure was beneath the dignity of a Presidential run.

Bristol Palin earned 350K+ from DWTS. That will go a long way towards caring for herself and her son. Bristol is a 20 year-old adult and can do what she wants. Sarah supported her daughter in her decision to dance and you sound like an old prune. You've earned an A+ in PDS. Get a life.
