Ya know we “Gave Peace a Chance” under Jimmy Carter. We all know how that worked out.

I’m all for peace; when the rest of the world is ready for it also.

Till then, my baby-boomer brothers and sisters, here’s a newsflash: burning incense and chanting OM ain’t gonna do the job. A big stick has proven results.

<< What ticks me off tho is the accolades that have been thrown on the individual artists John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr after the Beatles. Individually they were hacks with nothing noteworthy being produced by themselves but because they were “Beatles”, they were still idolized......>>

With all due respect, I couldn’t disagree with you more.

With NO due respect, “HACKS?” Are you joking?

The Lennon-McCartney song writing team was at the least, one of the most prolific, and at the most, the absolute best of its era. In fact, the best of a LOT of eras. I just read recently (and I wish I could find the article) that said that people in age groups 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, up to 70-80, that their number one choice for music bands is , yes, The Beatles. Not THAT many people can be fooled by “hacks.”

I am a musician. I play piano. I have been in a few rock bands in my time. To say that George Harrison wasn’t a great guitarist, or that Paul McCartney wasn’t a great bass player, or that John Lennon wasn’t a TRUE legend of rock and roll, (perhaps ranking with Elvis as the TWO of those legends), or that The Beatles weren’t GREAT, frankly, I think is foolish.

Were they hippie assholes? Sure. I’m sure all of them are/were liberals. (I think Paul is already dead in the head but he’s too stupid to lay down in a coffin.) But, to use their asinine and idiotic political persuasion to disparage their talents and skills as musicians and as icons is, again, foolish.

And again, with all due respect.

Sorry, kiddo, but Stephen Foster was one of America’s greatest composers. Just had the pleasure of seeing a play in which “Hard Times” was sung. Reduced me and the audience to tears. A genuis who died in total poverty but obviously not forgotten by 21st Century audiences.

I was not trying to speak ill of Stephen Foster. I agree that he was one of the greatest composers. But he is largely forgotten. A performance of Stephen Foster music probably would not fill up Madison Square Garden, nor would a new recording done by talented performers sell exceptionally well. Most people MIGHT know Camptown Races and Old Folks at Home. Far fewer would have a whole lot to say about Stephen Foster the man. The fact that the Beatles still sell quite well 45 years later is just as much a tribute to the people for whom they were a cultural or nostalgic touchstone as anything. While there are certainly young people who are big Beatle fans, it resembles a half life, and will fade with each generation. More staying power than Rudy Vallee, on par (at most) with Stephen Foster and Scott Joplin, but less than Beethoven and Mozart.

And I don't dislike most of their music. It was mostly tightly done pop ditties well marketed at the right time. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I don’t know about that. This morning I was listening to this guy on WABC radio called Crummy or something (I’d call him Crappy) and he was actually making fun of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” rendition.

And I am confident that Bing Crosby's White Christmas will still be played decades from now, long after John Lennon's "Happy Christmas/War Is Over" featuring the Plastic Ono Band is long forgotten. That song, of course, is as much a tribute to Crosby's power as a song stylist as it is to the song itself. Irving Berlin wrote a genuine standard, and Crosby gave the defining performance of it.

Where did you find that photo? Is it on the back of the album? I like the one of the older gal helping them get situated before they cross the street. I imagine there were many takes.

But Paul still has the cigarette in his hand. How come they don’t show the version where it is airbrushed out?

“There will always be people who don’t understand the past; but there will always be keepers of the flame who will never let the greats of yesteryear die.”

Yeah, greats like Chuck Berry, Bobby Vinton, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Doris Day, etc.

I’m here laughing my ass off. Boomers are *expecting* that people respect their music?

Hah!

The Beatles are great, but the didn’t *invent* anything. It was already there when they got there, and it carried on just fine after they left.

As an old person all I have to say is WFC.

Yeah the Beetles always sucked compared to the Stones. They were a chick group. Good riddance, while we still have 69 year old Mick Jagger strutting and leaping about on the stage

With NO due respect, “HACKS?” Are you joking?

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you misread my post. So lets try again, Post Beatles (meaning after they broke up), individually they were hacks...........and still are.

Tell you what, how about listing the post Beatles (meaning after they broke up) accomplishments of John, George and Ringo that reached international stardom? And please, please, don't post "My Sweet Lord" as a significant writing by George. It was crap that any teenager could have written............
