But that wouldn’t be an alternative. Going to an early slot still violates the mayor’s orders and violates NBC’s contract. Thus the move to Tuesday night. Really it’s all on the mayor, if he hadn’t declared a state of emergency the game would have gone on as originally scheduled, once he declared a state of emergency complete with curfew, the NFL had no choice. You can’t play a game during a state of emergency even if the emergency is a joke, and you can’t entice 70 thousand people to violate curfew even if the curfew is stupid. The minute the major did that contract law, liability law and PR sense (what happens if the storm really does hit and fans die trying to drive home in it) all say the league has to push the game to another night.

I just heard my two local talkradio show hosts 15 minutes ago talk about why the Eagles vs. Vikings game was REALLY moved for, the answer being in two names: Michael Vick. The Eagles do not want their best player getting hurt. Frankly, it is Vick that is holding the Eagles together, which means it is a very thin holding together. The Mayor of Philadelphia could CARE LESS about the fans and their safety.

Frankly, Governor Randell of PA got it correct, THIS IS A NATION OF WUSSIES.

That’s a cute theory, but it’s also painfully stupid. Especially given the fact that Vick DID get hurt in the game.

The game was moved because the mayor declared a state of emergency. Really think about it, when was the last time you saw a major league pro or college sporting event take place during an already declared state of emergency? I’ll give you the answer: never. The mayor declared a state of emergency all by himself with no input from the team or the league or Vick and the NFL did the only thing the NFL, or any other league, could do then, they pushed the game to be outside the declared state of emergency.

Even if that theory is true (which it highly improbable), how exactly does that make us a nation of wusses?

Why does one owner or coach wanting to protect a player condemn the whole country?

The game got played; why are you still bent out of shape about it?

Well, they could have still played the games with nobody in the stands. It would have looked like a normal Raiders home game then :)

Now, that's a cruel thing to say. (Accurate, but cruel nonetheless.)

I used to work with a die-hard Raiders fan. He'd cringe whenever I'd walk by his cube and casually ask if the Raiders were going to be on TV that weekend or if they were playing at home.
