NYT Abandons Journalism: Compares Jon Stewart to Edward R. Murrow
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | December 27, 2010 | Walter Hudson

Former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel rocked the proverbial boat in November. Responding to Keith Olbermann's brief suspension for making a few undisclosed campaign contributions, Koppel wondered why MSNBC was bothering to feign a lack of bias.

...when Olbermann draws more than 1 million like-minded viewers to his program every night precisely because he is avowedly, unabashedly and monotonously partisan, it is not clear what misdemeanor his donations constituted. Consistency?
Koppel railed against the trend in news media toward opinion-shaping and away from the reporting of fact. Koppel hit a nerve, evoking defensive replies from the cable news crowd.

Now, in an unwitting vindication of Koppel's argument, The New York Times sees fit to knight The Daily Show's Jon Stewart for "advocacy journalism" on behalf of the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010.

How do you spend 7.4 BILLION dollars on the 9/11 ground zero responders? Build each one their own hospital?

I’d compare the Times to the National Enquirer but the Enquirer actually investigates and reports, unlike the Times which seems to reformat press releases and memos from the DNC as news.

Murrow, even though liberal slanted, was at least a competent journalist.

Stewart doesn’t even come close.

When one thinks about the great TV journalists and anchormen of the past: Huntley, Brinkley and Cronkheit (not sure about the spelling), Stewart can’t match any of them except for their liberal slant. Stewart doesn;t even have the gravitas of any of those men. Furthermore, Stewart is a complete lightweight. Stewart’s brand of journalism resembles Michael Moore more than Murrow or any of the other men I listed. Stewart, like Moore, is a complete buffoon.

Huntley and Cronkite were very liberal. Brinkley wasn’t.

The media has been shaping opinions since timeimmemorial, before news papers the town/ street cryers radio television and all MSM, honest ones only in editorials and opinion pages, most MSM nowadays shape news to suit their politics in a way it was allways thus, I guess for some there is no right or wrong, only what works

I think I get it. Stewart is a comedian and the mainstream news is a joke.
