On Churchill's relationship with Islam
Positively Churchillian ^ | January 3, 2010 | B.P. Terpstra

Some important questions and no-nonsense answers:

Q: How did Churchill see Islam?

A: Churchill saw misogynistic Islam for what it was. In a word: totalitarian. Whereas Obama likes to feel facts, Churchill didn’t care for fantasy describing the so-called religion of peace in the frankest and therefore most politically-incorrect terms. Of Islam he said: “How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.” Today, CNN would censor Churchill, without doubt.

Q: What shaped Churchill’s views?

A: Realism. But also his compassion. Over the years, Churchill, who was well travelled, had witnessed firsthand the realities of life for the individual under Islam. “A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men,” he wrote.

How I love Churchill’s brilliance. Isn’t it easy to see why Zero-in-Chief hates one of the greatest thinkers in the 20th century. The sight of Churchill’s bust in the White House made Zero see himself as the little tiny piece of s. he is—as a really stupid, uneducated one which is so obvious when compared to the great Winston Churchill. The exit of that bust was done in such haste, it was staggering and revealed the ugly soul of zero.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.

The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.

No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

— Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).

It has to be the FIRST edition of 1899, however. Churchill heavily edited the later editions so as not to piss off Lord Kitchner, who had not wanted him on his staff for the punitive Sudan expedition, hated his guts and was to be a factor in his career for years to come.

“Fearless warriors” indeed. Muslim armies are a total bust in the modern age, besides trying to build nukes they can’t invent squat and advanced strategy and tactics are beyond them. Suicide bombers are the best they can manage.

Churchill's quote is one of my favorites on Islam. I am also fond of U.S. President John Quincy Adams':

“In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar (mohammed), the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent god; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. The essence of his doctrine was violence and lust: to exalt the brutal over the spiritual part of human nature...Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant...While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon the earth, and good will towards men” -John Quincy Adams

If I could choose any historical figure to sit down and chat with, it would be Churchill.

Double malt scotch and Cigars and a chat with Churchill.

Sounds delightful.

Luckily he was such a prolific and gifted writer it is almost possible.

Bump. Amazing how hundreds of years haven't changed Islam.

It is a very barbaric-looking religion, to be sure.

I hope American students are able to quote the above for their history teachers - or would that make them participants in a “hate crime”?

Haha. Love a cigar – and have never said no to a Scotch whisky. London’s award winning Churchill Museum set within the unique historic Cabinet War Rooms, is my Mecca.
