We haven't had any formal announcements from Republican candidates yet-- and it appears that we may have to wait a while from that. We've heard rumblings on who will run and it appears to be a fair share of people-- but only one can get the nomination. It would appear that non-official exploratory committees are already formed and people like Romney, Pawlenty, and others are criss-crossing the country, particularly to Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire.
So let's take a look at some of the signs of the start of the 2012 Presidential Cycle:
Robert Gibbs is leaving the White House-- and the reason, at least according to him, is very clear. Gibbs and Obama say that the Press Secretary will begin working on the efforts for Obama's reelection. While this move could be expected eventually, it appears to be coming before any announcements by GOP candidates. So the White House is scared or just being proactive. Either way it gives them a boost.
Minnesota's Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty has been making some quiet waves, but not so quiet that they could not be detected. He's served as Governor for two fairly successful terms and after deciding not to run for a third it becomes more apparent that he's running for the White House. The Atlantic has noticed his impressive table-setting:
The now-ex-governor has set up state-level PACs in Iowa and New Hampshire, a presidential power move that will let him raise, donate, and otherwise curry favor with state-level pols in those important primary states.
Pawlenty has undertaken a busy travel schedule, which drew the ire of Minnesota liberals who accused him of being an absent governor. He's visited Florida and South Carolina and made multiple trips to Iowa and New Hampshire.

It’s over. Michele Bachmann has decided to run so all everyone has to do is get behind this 100 percent CONSERVATIVE who is intelligent, experienced, has five kids too, keeps her family and business out of the press. She is so refreshing and is also young and beautiful. She is mature. Does not need to be on the cover of magazines. She just works her tail off day after day. Yes some say a House Member would be hard to elect but she started today and I follow her. We have two years to convince America that Michele is the best we have!!!!!

But I agree with what someone else said. We need to decide on our candidate and get behind that candidate prior to the primaries, in order to prevent the lefties from choosing for us.

Bachmann running, if true, is great news for those of us who don’t want to nominate Palin. Bachmann and Palin will split the cougar vote.
And those of us who don't want Palin need to pick OUR candidate and unify behind that candidate.

She is not a leader. Sarah Palin is a leader. She is nowhere near as good as Palin is. She doesnt inspire me at all.

She was great on Greta last night. Articulate too. She is a leader.
I have my doubts as to whether a female can win this time.
But....Michelle is exciting. Her voting record is superb.

She is entirely focused upon her talking points, and she cannot be manipulated by them.

What do you think of the ability of someone who was employed as a tax attorney for the IRS in federal court to get elected as president? Inotherwords, do you feel this might be unsurmountable political “baggage”? Just curious....

Justanobody... I think that Rep.Bachmann may have a great hurdle to overcome in explaining her employment record, as people of ALL political persuasions historically have demonstrated a visceral distaste for the Taxman.
That Michele Bachmann is an attorney places her among her peer group, as most of D.C. has a law degree, but I doubt that very many ever represented the I.R.S. against the public.
NOTE: "Heavy footed" refers to my practice of pulling out a desk drawer and putting my feet up on it while leaned back in my executive style chair and talked to a reluctant customer who didn't want to pay FOR HOURS. It is possible to sleep that way. The lies are always the same.
Bachmann’s previous job doesn’t bother me at all. There are tax cheats out there. I pay mine, so I have no problem with them going after genuine cheats.
I would prefer no taxes at all.
Michelle is very conservative and has an excellent voting record that is verifiable.
Just seems that this might be a future hurdle, whereas Chrissy Matthews & his colleagues obviously aren't.

She would obviously know what she is talking about.
I certainly agree with that, HOWEVER, my thoughts go to how the so-called conservatives handle this bit of information. If they start piling on as they did with George Allen, Tom DeLay, and numerous others, then we will have a problem.
On the other hand, if we do some research and determine exactly who, how and what she did and defend her and her awesome record since her days as an attorney for the IRS, then it should not be a problem. After all, she was ONLY 32 years old when she started that job. Just a kid, really.

Honestly...I don't have a problem with that. If I have to pay taxes, why shouldn't everyone else? Would have been wonderful if she had nailed Tim Geitner, Tom Daschle and all the other members, or would be members, of the Obama regime.

Because most citizens unfamiliar with her will go there FIRST, and not to her congressional page, much less any campaign page.
So, she helped collect the tax dollars that not only paid our service members, but kept us strong enough to win the Cold War. Why would I object to that?
Now, before the primaries, would be a great time to make your case for the candidate of your choice. Who do YOU want us to vote for?

Fair enough. Answer, no. The lefties may use her service during the Reagan/Bush years as a talking point, but the Independents and undecideds won’t be any more impressed than they were when our side screamed HUSSIEN-WRIGHT-AYERS in 2008.

WHAT will they attack when they realize that making jokes about a highly educated successful lawyer and mom and fostermom and politician -- isn't making any inroads among voters, then what will they dredge up???
I want to think about these possibilites BEFORE they ever transpire.
I emphatically agree with you, it's WAY too early to decide for whom to vote, but it will be an infinitely more interesting race if highly articulate women like Michele Bachmann enter it.
I also believe the MSM will pound us with the "peace and prosperity" of "Clinton's economy" over the next two years. We need to have answers ready for that.
That had never occurred to me, thank you for sharing. Clinton had nothing to do with those economic times -- that was simply the beginnings of the Tech Bubble -- which we all know was due to the prowess and finesse of Al Gore, that guy who invented the Internet.
I frankly don't know anything about her background, except the little I read yesterday, but in that little bit, coupled with watching her frequently on TV, I've concluded that she has enough smarts & tenacity & focus & motivation to successful conduct a run for president.
I noticed, too, that Governor Palin appears to be momentarily absent from the public scene, so I'm positive the two of these women are probably - well behind the scenes - playing a well orchestrated game of "Ping Pong."
Will be interesting to eventually learn what their combined plans for the next two years are. (LOL)
I understand your points, and appreciate the fact that someone is actually thinking ahead. My concerns are, and always have been, that we give the ENEMEDIA way too much power. We continue to refer to them as the "MSM" when everything we read proves they are
1) NOT in the mainstream of America
2) LIARS and propagandists
3) are bleeding viewers/readers on a daily basis
Perhaps a good route to take would be to discredit the ENEMEDIA, pointing out on a daily basis how they are the enemy and the Ministry of Truth. Feel free to go to my homepage and scroll down to the "ENEMEDIA" section where I have included several quotes from the admitted propagandists.
Then of course, as you say, we research everything there is to know about Michele, or any of our candidates, and have answers and explanations ready to go...starting now.

Frankly, very seriously, I believe that MOST of the audience for news & talk on TV is 98-percent political addicts, and without them, there would be NO news on TV, except the very local variety.
I don't think that MOST Americans stay current with ANYTHING political, and I don't think that MANY Americans typically tune in much more than the presidential election once every four years ---- elsewise, they are entirely focused on their jobs & families --- TOTALLY.
I would hope that all, repeat: ALL possible problems with ANY potential prez or VP conservative candidate be FULLY vetted, well well well BEFOREHAND.
On the one hand, I personally dislike watching anyone react with the "DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS" shock that the MSM likes to provoke.
MORE importantly, however, is that I'll never ever, not ever, forget my shock that Governor Sanford was once considered to be presidential candidate material, and in my shock, I truly wondered why it was obvious that noone had VETTED his entire life BEFORE stating that the Sanfords would comprise the Perfect First Family. Nowadays, all he is, is a characature of a cheatin' hubby, and everyone knows what it means if someone is said..... to be "hiking the Appalachian Trail."

I haven't followed her like you have; however, I have seen her on HARDBALL often, as Chrissy Matthews frequently invites her on, and I have always been impressed with her steady focus and single minded discipline to make POSITIVE that her talking points are presented, no matter what spitty little Chrissy TRIES to do, he's always trying to manipulate her into looking silly, he is the Supreme Sexist Pig and totally oblivious of the obvious.
Michele's most distinguishing characteristic is that she is utterly dispassionate about all the creeps who interview her - she does NOT care if they are offensive or patronizing or downright stupid - it NEVER fazes her, not ever.
Most people in front of a camera, or face to face in an interview..... they seek approval.... BUT NOT BACHMANN.... Michele is entirely focused upon having a platform to present her views and her talking points, and is NOT ever, not even once, seeking strokes & approval, and she NEVER ever denigrates or puts down anyone who doesn't have her high IQ and/or her advanced educational background.
She is so disciplined, yet I've never seen her be even remotely arrogant or ever express self-pride, or the self righteous weirdness of people like Little Miss Katie Couric or Chrissy Matthews, et al.
She is still an enigma to me, as really.... don't most politicians, don't most people who go into politics seek ATTENTION FOR THEMSELVES, and their platform is simply a 'prop'???

Last time around, I was impressed with his skills--he's a grade A grifter. A smooth talker. Cagey. That guy knew how to get free press. He did very well as an unknown in a crowded field of mediocrities. Watch out for him.
If Bachmann and Palin are in, let's face it, they are adversaries. That alone would be interesting. Curious to see how Mitt does. I expect him to do poorly. He is so not tea party. Who else? Pawlenty? I don't know him, but I don't take him seriously. Will anyone else enter?
As far as I know, you are correct, but there is no reason we can't start talking about who we like now. I'll be glad to have your thoughts on any Conservative that you feel deserves our consideration.
Last time around, by the time the race got to NJ, the conservative thing to do, according to Rush and all the talkers, and a lot of people here, was to vote for Romney as the last best chance to beat McCain. So that's what I did. I almost didn't bother, and in hindsight, I needn't have bothered.
Palin--If she runs, and she's in the lead, will I be looking for the best not-Palin vote? It depends. What if she changes my mind about her abilities? What if she actually closes the sale on me? It's not completely impossible--just unlikely.
So, anyway, that's where I am on it. I guess the point of my initial post was that I'm not anywhere near ready to get behind someone now, and having a bias against Palin at this point, I especially am not ready to get behind her. She's nowhere near closing the deal.
My goal when I vote is to vote for the best available option, based on my own priorities. Some years that's harder to do than others.
Oh yeah, I can be wrong about my choice too. I voted for Lonegan here in NJ, but am glad we got Christie.
