The other day I was in a shopping center parking lot and saw two stickers in the rear window of a mini-van. The first, which was in the lower left area of the window, said "Veterans for Obama". Okay, I thought; I don't understand it, but there it is. The second sticker was a few inches to the right, and said this; "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin.
I don't normally stop to ponder window stickers, but this pairing left me standing, slack jawed, and wondering, "What the ...?"

One theory is that they desperately need to believe in government as parent. When run by other lefties, a benevolent and parental government will shield them from the harsh realities of life by making decisions for them; telling them what to eat, what to drive, what energy to use, what light bulbs to use, how much their toilets can flush, what their children must learn and cannot learn, what they can and cannot say, ad infinitum.
The only thing that got toasted by global warming are leftturd brain matter...

What I have come to believe is that lefties are like herd animals. They congregate together for safety and security, and talk to and among only themselves; no independent thinking is ever permitted. What any lefty says is greeted with knowing nods of approval from the others, regardless of how much it defies reality.
Marx and Engels were strongly influenced by Hegel and Dialectical Materialism which basically says that there is no debating what is. What is simply is. (Maybe that is why Slick Willie said it depends of what the meaning of is, is.) However, what is is not the same for all of us. What is depends on our caste.
There are two caste, owners of physical property and non-owners of physical property. Physical property is considered the means of production and those who have it control those who don't, the proletariat or serfs/slaves whose only property is their labor. Each sees reality differently.
Life is a continuing struggle between those two and the only fair thing is to destroy the physical property owners and distribute everything according to "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." To achieve that workers paradise there are no rules, no morals. Anything goes.
There can be no debate about this. It simply is.
Islam went through a similar change when, in the 1300s, I think, one school of thought dominated the other. One school thought the words of Mohammed and the sura (?) were subject to interpretation and intellectual debate. The other said it is all exactly as it says and there is not and will not be any debate. That school dominated and is what rules today.
The other theory is that it is a grand conspiracy by the lefties to drive us all to the nut house, leaving the earth to them alone.
I know that is intended as humor but it is closer to the truth than Tony might think. Declaring dissenters to be insane and confining them is a long time tactic of the Communists.
So, there really are two worlds - the liberal/Muslim world and the conservative Western world. In their world there is no debate and there are no morals. In the conservative world there are morals and limits and much debate. Everyone must choose as we are at another schism in society. We must make a stand. The enemy is at the gate.
Trying to understand how a lib thinks can actually give you a headache. Once when an unwashed lefty actually tried telling that Dennis Kucinich was a staunch defender of the Constitution, I suffered a synaptic sprain trying to wrap my head around her thought process. I vowed never to go there again.

Dennis Prager recently had Alison Armstrong on his talk show (Wed 1/5/11) and this very question was asked/answered...the answer? Conservative = mainly male approach/thinking. Leftism = mainly female/feelings.

You should have asked her to define Constitution and then give you examples of its application to her life. You would undoubtedly have been amazed.
As to the first concern she would have defined Constitution as historical/cultural tradition or some such variation. There is no sense in which a liberal understands Constitution to mean a document.
As to the second in order of importance are such profundities as abortion (#1), Separation of church and state (#2), gay rights (#3), environmentalism (#4), and BO as state god (#5).
Note especially that none of these items had any significance until the promulgation of the ACP platform. They are each Marxist doctrine. This most insidious philosophy parades itself as the full expression of enlightenment. Its adherents will always assume any adversary is neanderthal.
There you have it. A short walk into the brain of a liberal.
People have to be taught to think. Thinking hurts. Thinking cuts away the poorly-propped assumptions people have. Ignorance breeds prejudice.
Poor thinkers are the people who villains like Callicles wanted to dominate (see Plato's Gorgias). Totalitarian governments find it hard to deal with the requirements of technological society and the need to suppress thinking. They want technically brilliant but politically naive workers.
Thinking takes time. You have to be willing to ask questions, such as “Why are we doing this? Why do we believe this? Who benefits from it? What other factors come in?”
However, when you have challenged the poorly-propped assumptions, and you have tested your thoughts, what you have are firm foundations of thought.
Conservatives do have a strong history of intellectuals underpinning the foundations of thought; they are as essential to the movement as our idealists and organizers. We need Buckleys and Palins.

Hey Tony that's no theory, that is the way it is.
That is why the LEFT are juveniles, college students who have never run a business, supported a family, etc, whining American females who believe everything on television, criminals who want only to confiscate the product of honest producers, politicians and lawyers whose only talents are deception and half-truth, babies who can only cry and whine for food, incapable of their own production.
That is hardly theory.

Here's another theory. Lefties are pathologic narcissists with a savior complex. They are both wrong about all the big things (e.g. giving poor people money doesn't make them un-poor but dependent) and passionate in their wrong-headedness, the worst combination. These are the activists. The bots they create through constant propaganda in schools and media are bovine followers with their hands out.
All leftists are protected by a "bozone" layer (the substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating). They are "ignoranuses" (both stupid and a**holes), and depend on the "Dopeler effect" (the tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly).
All cited terms from the Washington Post Mensa Invitational, whose left wing readers would have no idea they apply to themselves.
Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and into a shop. I was only there for about 5 minutes, and when I came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.
I said to him, 'Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break'? He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a 'Nazi.' He glared at me and wrote another ticket for having worn tires.
So I called him a 'doughnut eating Gestapo.' He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket.
This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, I didn't care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said, 'Obama in '08 .'
I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important to my health.
