Video: Frances Fox Piven Defends Herself On MSNBC, Gets A Little Tongue-tied
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Nice Deb

Posted on 01/25/2011 10:22:04 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

This is propaganda in its purest form. Grandma Piven knows the game well, and plays her victim card very competently – Beck plucked HER out of tens of thousands of people – she wrote a “little article” 45 years ago, she’s getting “death threats” etc… Alas, she gives the game away at the end when she starts down a forbidden road and then abruptly stops…Watch her closely at the 4:07 mark.

Oops…I don’t think she was supposed to go there. Do you think she was wearing an earpiece, and someone told her to cheese it?

In her December 2010 Nation column, Piven wrote: “Local protests have to accumulate and spread — and become more disruptive — to create pressures on national politicians. An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece. . . .” Given Piven’s strategic stance, it’s clear that she and The Nation are in fact calling for violence. Her denial of this lacks all credibility. Similarly, when The Nation’s editors defend Piven by referring to her support for “civil disobedience” and “street protest,” they are attempting to create the impression that Piven is a virtual disciple of Martin Luther King Jr., when in fact her longstanding strategy has little if anything to do with nonviolence.

Progressive radio host Amy Goodman recently invited Piven to appear on her show to speak about Beck and her other conservative critics. Goodman played an excerpt from my appearance on Beck’s show. There I noted Piven’s prominent role at the Socialist Scholars Conferences that Barack Obama attended in the 1980s. Commenting on my statement, Piven said that it was “crazy” to call her a socialist.

I watched that a few times. That was truly remarkable. It was a “holy sh!!” moment for me. Especially considering where she was going. I think the reason that the government increases the time period for unemployment benefits is to avoid exactly what she was starting to address.

And then she OBVIOUSLY realizes, via off camera prompting, or from within, “I need to stop talking about this.”

I don’t know. It could have been a sound lead-in for the break, but rather than be “brief”, she “stopped” altogether.
After her awkward reaction to what she did hear, there was plenty of framing accomplished by the tank moderater, for her victim status, that took them into the break.

That was the most amazing verbal full-stop I’ve seen in quite a while. Shelia Jackson Lee’s “we will take over your companies!” gaffe a year or so ago isn’t even close.

I wonder what she was about to say, something along the lines of “I wonder why they’re not rioting, burning down the legislature, shooting policemen...” ?

Piven was married to her long-time collaborator Richard Cloward until his death in 2001. Together with Cloward, she wrote an article in the May 1966 issue of The Nation titled "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty" advocating increased enrollment in social welfare programs in order to collapse that system and force reforms, leading to a guaranteed annual income. Commonly referred to as the "Cloward–Piven strategy". During 2006/07 Piven served as the President of the American Sociological Association

Throughout her career, Piven has combined academic work with political action. For instance, in 1983 she co-founded Human SERVE (Service Employees Registration and Voter Education), an organization with the goal of increasing voter registration by linking voter registration offerings with the use of social services or state Departments of Motor Vehicles. Human SERVE's initiative was incorporated by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, colloquially known as the "Motor Voter Bill".

Piven has called for mass protests by the unemployed to effect changes in government policy

2004 interview where when asked about non-violence, she commented:

"I have considerable respect for non-violence, but I don’t treat it as inevitably a necessary rule.”

“unless you have good reason for breaking the window, probably you shouldn’t do that. Unless it’s you know, a big part of your strategy”.

The difference in Piven’s ginned up unemployed “demonstrations” (artificially CAUSED by Commies in government) and the Tea Party rallies is that the Tea Party rallies are truly grass roots and patriotically spontaneous; while riots by the unemployed are mostly a type of “grass” (pot) roots ginned up by those seeking the destruction of this country. Then - if they (the Commies) don’t get bored - they think they can build it back like they think “it ought to be”.

Someone stopped her! It’s obvious that she had an ear bud ( or some other form of communication) and somebody shut her up when she was about to talk about the article where she called for violence by the unemployed like in Greece! It was really startling! It was so abrupt it was amazing!

Poor Granny Piven.

Ah here we go via the links, eventually (I've added the boldface):

"So where are the angry crowds, the demonstrations, sit-ins and unruly mobs? ... Shouldn't the unemployed be on the march? ...

"...before people can mobilize for collective action, they have to develop a proud and angry identity ... the out-of-work have to stop blaming themselves for their hard times and turn their anger on the bosses, the bureaucrats or the politicians who are in fact responsible...

"protesters need targets, preferably local and accessible ones capable of making some kind of response to angry demands... Local protests have to accumulate and spread -— and become more disruptive -- to create serious pressures on national politicians. An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece ...

"Protests by the unemployed led by young workers and by students, who face a future of joblessness, just might become large enough and disruptive enough to have an impact in Washington... We should hope for another American social movement from the bottom—and then join it."

An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece.

We don't have to worry about riots of government dependents in the US.

The difference, Ms. Piven, is that the rioters in Greece were able-bodied young males. That is who does riots.

The welfare and public sector constituents in the US she is calling out to riot are for the most part lazy, fat and female. Indolent rotund women won't riot, and if they did it would be more funny than frightening.

Yup, pretty clear she was told to ‘stop NOW’. I suspect it was through an earpiece because she suspends in mid sentence, so the ‘urging’ was off putting and someone yelling at her in studio would have been picked up by her mic. Watch her facial expressions, too! MS is once again exposed as a porpaganda outlet for the Soros-ocracy.

Frances Fox Piven, proving once again that the real leftist (democrat) agenda cannot be revealed.

Because the real democrat agenda is oppression, and has no merit for advancement.

This reflects the fact that Piven’s intellect, and that of Soros or any other leftist, is not strong enough to support even its own mediocrity.

Yep. I watched it several times and the facial expression leaves no doubt that this was not a case of “forgot what I was talking about”, or other explanation.

She was told to STFU in such a dramatic way that she didn’t even try to soften it. She just abruptly stopped talking. And the facial expression completely gives it away.

The length of the dead air was interesting as well.
